Neely4Life wrote:Yo kidding me? Regin wont be on the team whith a 2 way deal and all those guys under contract. Like it or lump it, thats what's gonna happen unless those contracts are moved before camp.

There will be trades in season and that's when some of the rookies might get their shot, but it wont be out of camp the way things look right now. There will also be injuries and deadline deals where the young guns will get their shots.

Everyone can say that Regin is ready (I def think he is) and Bass deserves a spot, so on, but the reality is they will not pay guy a million dollars to sit in stands.

I totally agree. Too many people just don't understand how much of a leg up the 1-way deal is over the 2-way deal.

Whether or not there is an opening at the forward position might well hang on the Heatley return, tho'. If BM is still looking for 2 forwards in return, it's highly doubtful; if only 1, then it's downgraded to only doubtful.

Regin is absolutly ready for regular NHL duty but you're right, the contract is too easy to keep in Bingo whil everyone else is impossible to move.

All that said, there is still tons for Regin, Bass, so on to accomplish in Bingo. They havnt been in the playoffs in how long? There is still tons to learn for all of them grinding out the AHL schedual. Bringing in guys like Keller and St.Pierre will help all those guys develope a little more and hopefully they learn to play hard in a winning environment.

There is absolutly no garentee that the environment will be better then it will be in Bingo this year. Signing Kovalev was huge and puts The Sens in the playoff picture, but so many things can still go wrong in Ottawa.

Oh, that doesn't please me. Why would Regin start in Bingo? There's room for him on line 3, centering Shannon (chemistry) and Kelly. Who takes that spot away? Bass? Not right now IMO.

Dude... as I said:

Currently, at the forward positon, OTT has 11 players on 1-way deals (Heatley, Spezza, Alfie, Kovalev, Fisher, Kelly, Neil, Ruutu, Winchester, Donovan, Shannon), plus Foligno, plus Schubert (who I assume is gone, but we can't wish him away -- he's here until he's here). That's 12 (or 13, if you count Schubert).

There are no openings at forward. And if BM makes a deal for Heatley than brings back 2 forwards (as with the nixed EDM deal), then there's even less room.

Regin and Z. Smith will be the first call ups in event of injury, trades, or a roster shake up, but they're not going to start the year with the team at the expense of any one on a 1-way deal. And you certainly don't keep players on the roster on 2-way deals if they're not playing regularly.

I would say the 1st call up from Bingo short term would be St. Pierre. If it was a long term injury Regin will more than likely get the call.

Different players in different circumstances.

A LOT of things have to happen for Ottawa to have any rookies up front.

I rather have Kelly over Axelsson.

Why? They're extremely comparable.

Except that Kelly is a few years younger.

Pfft. Donovan? He can ride the press box until there's an injury IMO.

Foligno - Spezza - Alfredsson
Heatley - Fisher - Kovalev
Kelly - Regin - Shannon
Ruutu - Winchester - Neil

Spare forward: Donovan
Needs to be traded or waived: Schubert

First call-up: Zubov, Bass, St.Pierre, Keller - depending on who goes down and where.

Kuba - Campoli
Volchenkov - Phillips
Lee - Smith

Spare: Picard
Needs to be traded or waived: Smith to make room for Picard

First call-up: Schira, Kinrade

Enough room for one rookie to make the team on forward - and IMO that should be Regin.

Donovan -- 1-way deal
Regin -- 2-way deal

Case closed. You underestimate the role of economics in all this. A player on a 1-way deal will not sit press box all year long.

Shouldn't we carry an extra forward either way?

I'd rather it be a guy like Bass. He's roughly half the hit of Donovan. $500,000 doesn't seem like alot, but at the deadline that's $2 million more to spend, should Murray actually decide to make a deadline move that matters (Leclaire was, but that was for the future).

Donovan makes $625K and Bass makes $513 -- not exactly "roughly half".

Unless something falls in their lap as part of the Heatley trade (e,g, Heatley, Schubert, Donovan, Smith, Kelly for picks and prospects) they will keep the 2-way contracts in Bingo. I don't like it but I've resigned myself to the very-high possibility of it happening.

My mistake. I thought Donovan made a million. What happens though if Murray cannot move Schubert, Smith etc? Buyouts? squirrel

Penner Spezza Kovalev
Foligno Fisher Shannon (if edmonton deal goes down)
Alfie Kelly Axellson
Ruttu Cogliano Neil

I've got to ask -- your sign-up date is yesterday, yet your nickname is 111519? Why?

Alfie-Prick-Spezza. That's my guess.

Guys, I'm not a moron. I know what it stands for, I just don't know why. If he had joined 3 months ago or before, sure, but given what we have all been talking about lately, why is 15 still there?
