UPDATE: DONE DEAL Working on a serious rumour: Auld to Dallas

Sweet deal. The next trade will most likely involve Heatley, Schubert and Picard as I suspect Smith will be going on LTIR before the season starts.

replaces the 6th we traded to Edmonton for the extra 7th this year.

Feel bad for Auld but I dont think there was much doubt that this was coming. Good on him and know we know for sure it is going to be Leclaire and Elliott going forward.

I think that's a shame; I thought Auld was quite good for us. Good luck in Dallas Alex !

Absolutely.

Auld was more then expendable and he had to go. We got a 6th, thats fine. We turned an asset we didnt need into something that could turn out down the road. We also didnt have a 6th round pick for 2010 and this helps in that aspect as well.

i'm not at all surprised but i does leaveme witbha few worries. what if leclaire suffers from another injury? even worst like a season one early in the year? would ottawa go along with elliot/mike brodeur duo or would murray sign or trade for another goaltender..? i loved what elliot brought to the table last year but i also saw a few weak games where he had to be removed...

Frankly, I'd have no problems with Elliott filling in until LeClaire was good to go. As for someone to back him up, there are bound to be NHL-calibre backups just about any time. That's why Auld only gets a 6th, Labarbera a 7th, Raycroft signs for $500K and so on. What happens to guys like Gerber, Biron, Theodore (when he's inevitably waived) and so on? What about Belfour? Has Cujo officially retired? Some of these guys will make it to the KHL, but others will be in front of a CBC camera waiting for the phone to ring.

there is a chance that leclaire could get hurt true but there is also a chance is we kept auld that he would get hurt as well and we would still be in the same situation just paying auld as well
