Comrie was recovering from hip surgery last season. That made him lose a step, for sure. Question is, will he regain his former speed or is this it? If he can get back to the form he showed 2/3 years ago, he is much more than what you describe. He may be small but he does not shy away from contact and he certainly brings speed and skill. There is no way to compare him to Big Bert, but you cannot dismiss him out of hand either. Plus he brings "Duff Stuff", too.

That said, maybe his hip is as good as it gets, and if he wants more than $2M it is simply too much (and then I think of Neil's contract and I get all bitter again).

Totally agree, especially about the more than $2 million part.

I am totally okay with Big Bert joining the team at like Moen type numbers, maybe not the 3 year term though, we have a comrie type player already with Shannon, and he is younger/cheaper/more potential upside.

Ya, I would definitely take Bert over Comrie.  Not that I think Comrie is as bad as most seem to think on here, I just think (like was already mentioned) he'd be a great fit with Fisher.  Before his injury problems last year, he was going at almost a point per game pace.  Strange thing is, he apparently was never even contacted by the flames about returning...like no offer at all...possibly because of his defensive play...another reason why he'd fit nicely with Fisher.

I don't want either Comrie or Bert taking up a roster position.

Since 2005-06 season in Vancouver, Bert was traded to Florida played 7 games(was injured), traded to Detroit and played 8 games for a total of 15 games in 2006-07. He was then signed by Burke in Anaheim for 2 years at 4 million each, scored 14 goals in 2007-08 then was bought out. He signed as a UFA for $1.95 million for 2008-09 in Calgary and scored 15 goals. Subsequently not re-signed by Calgary.

Based on his recent movements Florida, Detroit, Anaheim and Calgary since the 2005-06 season, he seems risky. I would rather leave the spot open to potentially Regin, Zubov, Bass or whoever.

latest quibblings from the swirling domino guy

Here is a quick look at Heatley Rumors..

1. The Oilers are still leading the pack, and there are some inside signs that Heatley may be cracking here.
2. The Sharks are having a tough time making the needed deal with Montreal to free up the space needed, otherwise that would be done.
3. The Rangers are still angry (more on why later)
4. The Blues are considering getting back into it.
5. The Wild are waiting to hear about a proposal.
6. The Bruins (mostly Chiarelli) are keeping their nose in the game.
7. The Islanders would LOVE to get in the game, and are trying to get added to Heatley's list.
8. The Calgary Flames, Heatley's hometown team, are also rumored to be "quietly" offering up a significant D-man.
9. The Blue Jackets are also trying behind the scenes to explore options and are beng nudged by Nash.
10. If this lasts long enough for Phoenix to get the ownership issues decided a Jovonovski for Heatley deal is "not at all out of the question."

Most of those teams don't make any sense, I could believe The Sharks and Wild and of course the Oilers.

Phaneuf for Heatley ? I don't see Ottawa taking that.

Judging by "fat Penner" offer standards, Phaneuf for Heatley would be far and away the biggest and best offer to date. I'd do it without thinking twice.

Too bad CLG is most certainly not moving him.

SSF has pointed out that Phaneuf hasn't been the same since Avery's comments though, stating every time Dion closes his eyes, he sees Avery and Elisha getting it on, damn that Sean Avery, has turned Phaneuf into damaged goods 🇬🇬

Yeah Phaneuf hasn't been the same, not to mention he didn't exactly shine in the playoffs.

As for fat Penner, I think him getting a fresh start in Ottawa and being put to task by Clouston would be good for him. A 6'4 forward crashing the net every night would be good for us.

I don't think taking a D man for Heatley makes sense, since we need forwards to replace Dany and Kovy only partially fills the void.

I DON'T WANT TODD BERTUZZI IN OTTAWA!

As far as I'm concerned, he shouldn't be allowed to play in the NHL.

I know it's not a popular point of view but that's what I think.

We don't have room for Regin, Bass, Z. Smith and Zubov, to say nothing of Schubert. On D we don't (yet) have room for Karlsson, Wiercioch, Cowen (the first two could be ready now; Cowen next season), to say nothing of Blood and Gryba.

Now, none of those I mentioned are ready to either replace Hatley or to contribute significantly on D, however sooner or later those guys need a chance. You can't continue brining in 25 year old rookies (Winchester last year).

What we need is spaces on the roster for the ones ready to step in now, and picks and prospects to replace them in the pipeline.

a commentor over on Sens Chirp's blog posted this as a possible scenario (no sources, just throwing out ideas)

Anaheim 1st 2010 pick
Joffrey Lupul RW $4,250,000
Bobby Ryan RW $1,921,667
---------
$6,171,667

To Anaheim
Dany Heatley RW $7,500,000
Christoph Schubert Lw $883,333
----------
$8,383,333

As sexy as it would be for us, I doubt it happens.

Don't worry about the 1st rounder or Lupul, I'll take Bobby Ryan straight up for Heatley. Save $$ too.

I imagine Lupul is just included to take a salary back, Ryan is the main piece of that deal, the 1st would just be a bonus.
