That deal is way better.

I wonder what the sweatner is...a 1st, Staal, Bobby Sanguinetti...what...what...what.
I'm on sportsnet and I'm not seeing any mention of the NY deal...the sun mentions it but just Roszi and Dubi...I could use one right about now...I can't believe this prick has the gull to knix the trade after all this bs...mas que merda, filha da puta! Of the three deals mentioned in the sun, the oilers offer is for sure the best.
I would take Penner over Rozival all day long.

Brasil or Portugal? No doubt, Penner is the better option over Roszi!  I like the idea of getting Penner even though that salary is on the large side.  I'm just not sure what the point of us taking Smid would be...but I don't know much about him

I take it if Heater isn't traded by noon today this will seriously hamper Murray's chances to sign a FA. If true, that sucks. It seems no matter what deal they get (most likely in the mediocre range like the deal from Edmonton) for Heater the true icing on the cake will be cap savings. The true worth of the trade can't be judged until that extra cap space is used. By the time Heatley is dealt with there will be nothing but scraps left over to plug a hole or two.

i have my own questions about del zoto... that guy's always played with tavares... that would surely boosts your stats. but if he's good then we might need a center like that.

In that case I really hope Murray can multi-task well.

Del Zotto is a d-man, so while he did spend most of his career with Tavares, it was in somewhat of a different capacity.

I didn't really know too much about him until he came to London in the Tavares deal, but from what I saw of him in London he looked pretty good. Mind you he played for one of the OHL's strongest teams, so that can't hurt any. But at the same time, playing under Dale Hunter can't hurt your development either.

He's no shut down defenseman either, but he does have the skills to be a solid pmd.

I dunno...

This is the rumor going around.

Heatley doesn't want to go to Edmonton but he could still go there as a last resort.

In the mean time, Heatley and his agents are trying to broker a deal with the Rangers so he can go there instead. That makes a lot of sense too and it makes Heatley look even more selfish.

Smid is an RFA this year, Cogs is the next. So Penner and Cogs combined is a cap hit of 5.38 plus whatever we sign Smid to. So realistically, there would be a savings.

Also means he'll be coming back to Ottawa twice a year, as opposed to just the once... Oh how the boo birds will be singing... music, sweet music.

Hmm...I see.  Not much of a savings.  I guess I just don't see the point of throwing in Smid.  Murray must see something there...just seems like we've got enough low end D with something to prove...

We may need to replace Volchenkov next year as he is a UFA. Smid is 23, calling him a low end defenceman might be a bit premature.

Calling him a Volchenkov replacement might be the same.

We'll resign Volchenkov before he gets close to UFA status.  My point about Smid is that we already have Picard and Lee and we didn't resign Bell...Smid seems to fit that same profile.

Don't get me wrong. I in no way mean to imply that he is anywhere near Volchenkov. My point is we may need a defensive Dman to replace his role. I have my doubts we will be able to afford Anton next year.
