If true, this deal makes me nauseous.

I really like that Cogliano got included, and I confess that Smid has a lot of potential. Penner might thrive, but he's definitely negative value right now.

But this deal does very little to replace Heater's offence or to add pieces that we need (such as a high scoring prospect or an AHL ready goalie or additional draft picks). Smid gives us, what, 9 defenceman?

I will not be happy if the final deal looks exactly like this. There ought to be at least a prospect / pick included, and/or someone like Smith going the other way.

And, yes, if true, I do think it will (and should) cost BM his job. I know he was in a bad spot, but if true this is a bad deal.

Yes, you can point to our prospect depth being revitalized by Murray, but keep in mind that when he took over the roster, it was fresh off a Stanley Cup finals appearance.

Since then, we've nose-dived, so he'd have damn better filled the cupboards.

We've nose-dived because the best thing we could fill a roster spot with without giving up an asset was Diddle Randy Robitaille Of course we took a nose-dive. It would have taken a repeat performance from every single player on our roster to get us back to the Conference Finals in 07-08 and those things clearly don't happen for a lot of teams coming off a Finals loss.

The biggest problem that year was that the two dips-hits at the top of our depth chart had no heart.

Now one of them is gone and the other is being thrust into a leadership position.

This was a good thing, even if we didn't get an A1 return.

And Dany Heatley is 4 million dollars richer!!!!!

I just want him gone at this point. I've heard it's a done deal and that Murray is ready to make a bigger splash come tomorrow.

hell no!!! murray is the only hope this team has. he's amazing at drafting and with anybody else we would of got the whole garbage truck.
imagine if gainey was here? it would of been the NYR deal from the dealine... NO WAY!

It looks much more palatable if you add the name Magnus Pääjärvi-Svensson to it, though.

I don't think it should cost Murray his job, but what he does tomorrow - and in the next month will determine a lot. He has to go out and get someone tomorrow. Penner's okay, people are pretty down on him, but McT gave it to him all the time. He could do no right in his eyes. I watched him play a fair bit - and while I wasn't overwhelmed, he was a big guy to try to move from the front of the net.

Cogliano has a lot of potential, so that's good.

Smid I don't think fits here in the least.

So..again, depending on what Murray does tomorrow - I'll try to reserve judgement for now (still don't really like the deal though ).
