The official wording in article 11.8.b is that "a no move-clause may prevent the involuntary relocation of a Player whether by Trade, Loan or Waiver claim."

I'm pretty sure a player doesn't have to be placed on waivers to be assigned to an AHL team prior to a season commencing.

that's the thing, it doesn't say that... It says he can't be placed on waivers, can't be loaned, and can't be traded... Being sent to Bingo to start the season, legally, doesn't fall into any of those categories. It's an absolute waste of money, fine, but I do believe we have the legal right to do so.

I'm basing this on precedent. The Leafs couldn't do squat with McCabe. If they could have found a way to assign him to the Marlies before the season started.

I know the CBA wording doesn't explicitly deal with this, but I'm quite confident that it wouldn't be an option.
