That tells me he has his sights set on a big UFA.

That tells me that he should be drawn and quartered THEN fired.
??? What ???

Scanlan is usually pretty good though. At least that's my opinion.

I doubt that's true. That is way less then market value.

I expect to see a deal that's a little less then market value but not like that. The team getting Heatley would walk away laughing.

Murray would never do it below market value, if he is true to his word that is.

When things go dark with Murray, the deal is more likely to get done.

Thats exactly right. No one is going to know anything until it goes to the league for approval.

Yup, the less I hear the more optimistic I am. Then everyone will say "I didnt see this coming". Then you shouldnt be a hockey journalist.

Agreed. Scanlan is the saving grace for Ottawa sports writing.

I think he'll take the deal that's closest to market value.

But I'm telling you right now that Heatley demanding a trade publicly does matter in negotiation. GM's wonder why he would do that and they worry about other things (ie. baggage, character, etc.) and also they feel as though they are the ones in control of the negotiations since Murray probably will trade Heatley at some point.

Bottom line is if we can get close to market value then it's a pretty good trade considering the circumstances.

I laughed when I saw Panzeri's headline this morning saying that Murray can't make a deal. I didn't have time to read it, but I know one thing for sure: Murray isn't giving anyone anything to work with. No one outside of the organization (and at the very top) is going to get any details.

If Murray's gets a deal he thinks is decent, he's going to say that there's nothing on the table right now.
If Murray gets a deal he really likes, he's going to say that there are a couple of offers he's looking at.

It amazes me that these guys can't read between the lines.

Not that I disagree, but how do you know?

Panzami is a hack and the Ottawa $hitizen has sunk to the level of the Sun.

How do I know that Chirp has nothing? He hasn't called anything right since the gag-order came down from Murray.

How do I know Murray isn't giving anything to a sports writer? come on....

that is what I am hoping, something will come out of nowhere, a team we never figured, and we will be packing Heatley's bags to get him out of Ottawa and kicking him on the plane (or the Fighting Montagoose will)

At worst, we get to discuss who Ottawa picked with their 9th overall tonight. Thank God.

It would be nice to talk about 2 top 10 picks in the 1st round, too!

"The Big Story" for me tonight is whether the leafs with end up with baby shenn. Will they trade up or wait? will he get picked just before? Would they pass on shenn if he came around and a guy like duchene is available? If they do trade up, how high will they go to secure him?

Wohoo! can't wait .... Ahhhhh!

should be an exciting night for sure, wish I could be around for the chat, but will be religiously glued to TSN tonight for any more information, minus the parts where TSN panelists kiss Burke's Donkey, we need less of the guys, more of Holly Horton.

whether you think he is credible or not, Chirp is following this situation religiously, seems we are back in a gray area again when it comes to deals, must be more posturing.

This really is turning into a big game of chicken between Bryan Murray and the three or four GM's interested in Dany Heatley. There are reports out there saying that this deal wont get done today but I'm not convinced that's not just an intentional leak. One of the teams involved has to step up there offer and blow Murray away. All that said, there still isn't an offer good enough to get a deal done. Clock is ticking...

That tells me he has his sights set on a big UFA.

Dreger is full of it, Pittsburgh threw more at Atlanta for Hossa as a rental.

To be fair, Hossa was a UFA after that. That gives you flexibility, especially in cap-uncertain times.

What we get wil be *exactly* market value, though. By definition.

I understand what you are driving at, that his market value has decreased because he asked to be traded. Perhaps. But on the other hand this doesn't change the fact that he's pure goal scorer, and the other fact that every GM thinks he can handle some situation better than another GM. Yashin, Avery, Redden, Cleary -- in some cases it even works out.

The fact that he asked for a trade (and the added fact that it leaked out) changes a couple of things. First, the GMs will certainly have to consider why he asked to be traded. This will take some time to process, drawing things out a bit, but at the end of the day they are still getting a 50-goal scorer signed long-term at a more than fair salary. Second, it opens up the possibility of a bidding war since every GM knows what's up (I don't think Murray is in the habit of sending out group e-mails like Lawton did).
