With Murray not getting bargains out of Spezza, Fisher, Kuba, and Kelly (close to 1/3 of their budget), he won't go after JBo. To succeed in this cap era, you need to find bargains. JBo, as good as he is, won't be a bargain.

The Sens also do not have a 3rd round pick this year.

Now if you trade Chris Kelly for the negotiating rights.....

Even if you trade Kelly, that's roughly 1/3 of J-Bouw's probable salary. Myself, I am happy to wait for our homegrown backend to be rockin' crotches in about 5 years.

I assume it would be Heatley and Auld to Colorado for the 3rd and Wolski?

I don't need to even think about that, done. Wolski and Duchene!!!! Two Battalion, both top 6 players, would be a great tandem in the NHL. If they throw in Cameron Gaunce too, even better.

Why does everyone seem to think that the asking price will remain there? It goes up....

A 3rd round pick is already too much for the Ottawa Senators. Apparently that's a conditional pick that turns into a first rounder if he signs too. Not worth the effort and the expense.

I may have been looking at that with rose coloured glasses. Maybe just the 3rd overall.

Quote from Cliff Fletcher, per McKenzie/Dreger: "Murray's asking price for Heatley is insane."

Well, at least we know he wants elite talent back.

who does Cliff Fletcher think Heatley is, just some random 30 goal scorer, hell no, only two players have scored more than this guy post lockout if I am not mistaken, of course Murray expects elite talent.

12 hour shift ugh, well the draft will have you occupied for about 2 or 3 hours tonight, they only do the first round tonight I believe, then hopefully a heatley trade will happen and that will make us all excited, provided it's the right deal. don't want burke hogging the limelight with a kaberle deal and McGuire then shown kissing his feet for 10 minutes.

as per Sens Chirp, I definitely hope this is a positive defining moment though, not a flop.

http://www.senschirp.ca/

Just got word from a source in Montreal that the Heatley deal will not be going down today. Murray is going to give each interested team a chance to put an offer in at some point this evening and then they hope to have a deal in place before the draft tomorrow.

As some of you are pointing out a Minnesota beat writer is speculating that the LA deal will include Frolov, a prospect/player and the 5th overall. This kinda meshes with what we have heard all along in terms of an asking price but it is my understanding that they have not officially tabled such an offer yet. Offers are apparently trickling in at this point but there is nothing that is absolutely blowing Murray away.

The word is that the Senators will have the 'best' offer in place heading into draft day and will then go to the Kings tomorrow and give them a chance to top it.

Just over 24 hours to go till the NHL Entry Draft and the Los Angeles Kings appear to still be in the driver seat in the Dany Heatley sweepstakes.

I don't want to overstate this but hang on tight Senators fans. It appears as though we are heading quickly towards defining moment in the history of this franchise.

I'll post any updates as I get them.

now reading this on the ottawa citizen, I am getting depressed.

http://www.ottawacitizen.com/sports/Heatley+offer/1734978/story.html

Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray is finding out that trading Dany Heatley is more difficult than he could have ever imagined. Like, maybe impossible.
On the eve of the NHL draft, three weeks after Heatley's demand became public on June 8, the Senators haven't had an offer. Not even one for the proverbial bag of hockey pucks.
Consequently, they don't believe they'll be able to trade Heatley this weekend, and even fear they'll be unable to deal him by July 1, when he must be paid a signing bonus of $4 million U.S.
That could lead to the possibility of Heatley having to play for the Senators next season, however unpleasant that may be for both sides.
Assistant general manager Tim Murray, speaking in place of Bryan on Thursday, acknowledged that's a distinct possibility.
"We're not giving him away because he has made the demand to be traded," he said.
"It has to be a good hockey deal or it won't get done.
"And then we just assume on Sept. 14 or 15 he'll show up at training camp, and be part of our team and go forward, and (be) a big part of our team, obviously."
Tim Murray said the organization was trying to stay hopeful. More than six teams have called asking about the parameters of a trade. But no one has called back.
"I know Bryan has talked to a few different teams and it doesn't seem like there's a serious offer there right at this moment," he said. "But again, I remember doing different deals with Bryan ... and they just come out of the blue in the last second.
"We just staying hopeful."
The rumours about possible destinations for Heatley have been knee-deep here, as speculation begins to swell for the draft. But the view among many is that the Senators are stuck. "This is not going to happen," one agent said Thursday afternoon. "His contract is unmovable."
Heatley's agents are also taking a beating from their colleagues for making the demand public, especially with the way it appears to be going horribly sideways.
"This is the most moronic thing I've ever heard," one agent said. "No responsible agent would ever do this for a client. You have to tell him that it's just going to kill the chances of making a deal."
The Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks are thought to be among those who have called Murray and offered various packages.
In fact, no one has offered anything. Some teams have even been calling reporters to make it clear they haven't bid, despite speculation. Heatley's contract is a stumbling block. He has five years left with an annual salary-cap hit of $7.5 million.
"I don't know what (the other teams) thinking," Tim Murray said. "They make the call. They ask us the parameters of a trade. We tell them basically what we're looking for, in NHL players, prospects or draft picks. Then it's up to them to decide if they're serious or not."
So far, they're not.

Doug MacLean was kind enough to inform Sportsnet viewers that Heatley will be receiving 4 million on top of 8 more million for the upcoming season.
