Talk all you want about them being disappointments, but they signed their big deals before last season and were still both very solid that year.

Our break-out sucked this season. Give them a year with any system that can generate some offence and they'll be back up to high levels of production and back up in trade value.

Agreed. I wear rose-coloured glasses from time to time - and there`s definitely a part of me that wants to see these guys with Karlsson and Wiercioch before casting them aside.

Karlsson and Wiercioch are IMO at least another season after this from entering the NHL and then it's probably going to take a while for them to get established.

How old will Heatley be by then? Spezza at 25 has a lot more to go.

Won't Heatley be 30 by the time those two are ready to play for the Sens? He's 28 now, so 30, maybe tickling 31 by the time they're ready to go full tilt. Still a prime of a guy's career. Spezza will be 28.

We would still have Heatley for another 3 years and Spezza for another 4. I think it's a monetary risk obviously, but these are the guys that can absolutely light it up for you with those two guys on the back end (again, things can change and one of the two could never set foot in the NHL).

So, after his slump at the beginning of the season, Alex Ovechkin has 41 goals in his last 47 games.

Not that that should come as a surprise.

He's so good it actually hurts to watch at times. He's basically everything you can possibly want in a player.

We're going to have to look at slightly younger guys though IMO if we're looking for a mentor. Who is there? Kaberle? Markov? I don't see either of them in Sens uniforms any time soon.

I don't know man...I've thought about it so long it's actually getting tiresome. All I know is: I'm not completely sure I have confidence on Bryan Murray getting the right guy. For all the things Murray does well...sometimes filling a very diddling important need isn't one of them.

I'd definitely pursue Visnovsky down the line if he'd come cheap and Karlsson were here.

Or Ohlund.

But somehow, I can't see them being cheap.

Maybe we acquire Kronwall from the Wings.

Visnovsky won't come cheap - in fact, they'd be nuts to let him go, but what of their blue line featuring Souray (5.4), Visnovsky (5.6), Gilbert (4), Staios (2.7), then having Grebeshkov and Smid both making 1 million this year and ready for their second contract.

When will they figure they have too many of those kind of D-men - and when they do, can we please be there to 'aid' them?

I mean getting Visnovsky a few years from now when Karlsson arrives.
