POLL: Bryan Murray's worst move (PRE-Deadline)

Worst move by Bryan Murray. Tough one because some of it is what he should have done.

1.Joe Corvo and Patrick Eaves for Cory Stillman and Mike Commodore.

2.Not fixing the team's defence in time for the beginning of the year

3.Not properly addressing the goaltending before the beginning of the year.

4.Hiring John Paddock (and not firing him soon enough).

5.Hiring Craig Hartsburg (and not firing him soon enough).

6.Trading Andrej Meszaros for Kuba, Picard and SJ's 1st.

7.Trading SJ's 1st round pick, Dean McAmmond for Campolli and Comrie

8.Other

For me it's the hiring of Hartsburg and the time it took to fire him.

To me it's something else. Just the mindset he used after the loss to the Ducks in the finals. He tried to turn them into something they never were, a strong defensive team. But at the same time he kept a lot of the same forwards who were use to playing an up tempo style of hockey. Defensive defensemen, offensive forwards.....the 2 don't mix very well as we've seen. The fact that he didn't replace the puck moving defensemen that left really hurt this team.

I would deal Meszaros straight up for Campolli.

I said goaltending, but honestly I should have said Defense, I think that was our major downfall this season...

^Doesn't matter, if you were to trade Schubert to Pittsburgh and could get either Staal or Malkin in return, you'd win if you got Staal but it'd still be dumb because you didn't choose Malkin.

It is basically Meszaros for Campolli, thats exactly what it is. If you think that 1st rounder was going to get us from 4th to 2nd, or 5th to 2nd, it wasnt. Our 2nd rounder and San Jose's first literally might be a difference of 3 picks.

Stop over valueing the 1st rounder.

I said hiring Paddock. Although, Hartsburg was close too, the only thing is Hartsburg came in here spouting stuff that got everybody excited... you know, finally saying there would be accountability, and how there was a plan in place. But Paddock, he just sucked all around.

No, I meant Tampa Bay's first rounder.

If we had gotten Tampa's first rounder in the deal, we could hypothetically have walked away from the draft with Hedman AND Paajarv-Svensson.

Agree on how SJ's pick wouldn't have done much for moving up in the draft. In the top 10 it might move us up 2 spots max.

Don't forget Kuba was also part of the Meszaros trade. We may yet get another good pick or prospect with him.

If we had gotten Tampa's first rounder then this would look like another Yashin for Chara and Spezza trade. Just ridiculous if you think about it.

Too bad we didn't but I'm sure Murray tried and they declined.

Has this been gnawing at anyone else? Tampa Bay thought they were gonna be the cat's meow this year, I'm surprised they couldn't be persuaded into giving up their 1st instead of SJ's.

Maybe, but the team wasnt planning on tanking this year.

Yeah but it was a safe bet that Tampa would.
