POLL: Bryan Murray's Best Move This Summer

I totally stole this idea from HFBoards, but let's face it, we've all talked about it, so...who and why?

OK, so being the second oen in I can see which way you voted. But I cannot agree. Trading Gerber would have been a great deal, but signing Auld is just so-so. Other goalies in Auld's ballpark were signed for the same or less, if I recall. Sure, Auld has been playing great (4th best SV%, 3rd best GAA) but he (as others) has done that before for long stretches, while not being able to keep it up for a full season. I hope for the best but 10 games in it's a little too early to tell if Auld at $1M per is a better deal thatn Lalime would have been.

Looking at the other choices, I really don't see anything that stands out other than Winchester. NHL-ready 3rd liner for a qarter of the price that we used to pay Schaeffer, and with a very similar skillset but greater desire to compete.

I briefly considered the Meszaros trade, but dropped that for three reasons: first, that 1st rounder is going to be just like a 2nd rounder; second, Kuba will be either gone or likely cost more than Meszaros' $4M next year; 3rd Picard has been playing better lately but with three of the last four games unavailable for my viewing pleasure I still have the images of his brutal giveaway passes burned in my retinas.

I picked the Meszaros trade because Picard and the first will add up to better than Meszaros on their own and then you look at Kuba and what he's done so far and it's a pretty sweet deal.

It was tough because I thought about picking the Auld signing just based on what's happened with Gerbs and how well Auld is holding the fort thus far.

Depending on the progression of Lee/Picard, Kuba may be retained (if his salary demands are reasonable).

I almost voted for the Mesz deal.

I voted for Jason Smith, but I wanted to be able to vote for both Smith and the Mezaros trade, assuming of course that we keep Picard and Kuba; because essentially, Jason's leadership and veteran skills will be invaluable to pass on to both of them, plus our young D-core and he has a lot to contribute I believe.

Time will tell I suppose, but I've ALWAYS been a fan of Smith and god knows our Sens needed more grit and sandpaper.

I voted the Mez deal.. Simply because I felt Meszaros wasn't worth the money he was demanding, and I figured we'd end up getting hosed in a deal because of that.... But Murray managed to do it, Kuba has been a surprise and even if we do lose him, i'm sure we'd replace him with someone of equal calibre.. Picard should stick around for a while i'd think and who knows what the pick will bring us, but I can't see all this stuff we got not compensating for Meszaros.. I'd even go an extra step and say Picard has the potential to be just as good as Meszaros... Time will tell...

I voted Winchester.

HUUUGE fan of this guy so far, and at $550K, this guy is a steal.

I voted other. Too early to tell...

oh yeah, I forgot about Winnie... So far, he's been an awesome player. Can't wait for him to notch his first!

I'm going to lose it when he does.

Murray has made lots of good moves so far given the state of the team he inherited. No wonder he didn't want the dual role anymore; so much work to do as a GM, especially since 2006-07.
