Dawg's Wife wrote:Still going through the information fed my way, but it seems like Melnyk and Murray had a heart to heart. It may be that they talked to the captain and asked his opinion whether the team could make a turn around in the years to come with the current coach, or whether the players just didn't have the respect he deserved.

This may have led to Hartsburg being canned (caution at this point the Murray, Melnyk Alfie convo is just a rumor), but from what I can tell this is phase one, with Murray on the edge of his firing. Murray is now looking to not only find a new coach (one would think it will be a hard Donkey) but then consult with that coach as to who should go and don't be surprised if it's any number of a couple of big players. Fisher and Heatley may be tops on the list.

Dawg seems to think that Torts or Quinn will be named in the upcoming weeks and they will have some control over moves.

Thanks for the insight. I sincerely hope this is the case, but moving a NMC and NTC is going to be a tough sell to those bozos.

Okay, so this site is really messed-up this morning, and I apologize if this has been posted elsewhere...I can't see anything!

Predictable. 20+ man roster. Six?

1. Martin fired and replaced by Murray. Team goes to the SCF.
- Spezza was a pup who wasn't even allowed to play "with men"
2. Murray hires Paddock. Awful, awful choice. Every one was saying so at the time.
3. Murray fires Paddock and take over again. Too little, too late.
4. Hartsburg hired. Again, some think it's the wrong choice; arguably Murray's second choice.
5. Hartsburg fired, likely replaced by Murray.
5. Rogers' one game behind the bench?

PKC wrote:You know what, this team has problems that everyone can see. But playing lazy, uninspired hockey should NOT be one of them. It's just simply inexcusable to get outworked every game by the opposing team. We might not have the puck-moving defensemen or the secondary scoring or bonafide goaltending, but these guys are professional hockey players and should be giving their best effort to play on both sides of the puck.
That's why he got fired: he couldn't get them working harder.
It's a real shame that no one seems to be able to motivate these guys... it should not be this hard.

I think this is the beginning of a housecleaning Dung-storm for the organization. The blowup is imminent.

Sorry gang, my bad re: Clouston on the chat. His bio here:

http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Ottawa-Senators-Hockey-Club-753064.html

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 19, 2007) - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has named 2007 Western Hockey League coach of the year Cory Clouston as head coach of its American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. Clouston replaces Dave Cameron, who returned to the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors of the Ontario Hockey League.

Clouston, a native of Viking, Alta., has been head coach of the WHL's Kooteney Ice for the past five seasons, earning a 0.637 winning percentage with 209 wins, 110 losses, 24 overtime losses and 15 shootout defeats over the span of 360 regular-season games. His teams made the playoffs in each season, advancing as far as the conference final in 2004-05.

For his 104-point season in 2004-05, notching 47 wins, 15 losses, seven in overtime and another three by shootout, Clouston was named both the WHL and Canadian Hockey League coach of the year.

Before his move to bench boss for the Ice, Clouston had served as assistant coach from 1999-2000 to 2001-02. Prior to joining the Ice, Clouston was the general manager and head coach of the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (1995-99). During his four-year stay in Grande Prairie, his team compiled a 0.627 winning percentage (143-82-15) and he was named AJHL coach of the year in 1995-96. He was also an assistant coach with the Powell River Paper Kings of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League in 1994-95.

Clouston has also participated in Hockey Canada's national teams program, serving as assistant coach when Canada's national under-18 squad won the 2005 U-18 Junior World Cup and then as head coach of the team that also took gold in 2006.

Clouston, 37, played four years at the University of Alberta and was a member of the 1991-92 Golden Bears team that won the Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's hockey championship.

Newly named Ottawa Senators head coach John Paddock was Binghamton's first head coach in 2002-03 and 2003-04. During the NHL lockout, Paddock served as co-head coach with Dave Cameron, who remained until the end of last season.

The B-Sens made the playoffs in their first three seasons since returning to the AHL, but have been kept out of post-season action the last two years.

It's about time. Clouston is not needed here, let's find someone quick so he doesn't have to interim too long.

Here's a thought:

Hire Clouston and bring up the Bingo roster. Then send all the coach killers down for a 35 game conditioning stint.

If he is stupid enough to put Clouston in place then, begrudgingly they should be moving Murray out too. This is silly. There are a lot of coaches out there. He recently interviewed them you would think. He should be in position to pull the trigger on a better solution than Clouston, even if it is just for a few games. I am sorry but the fanbase here deserves better than here is another vanilla AHL coach to run your 'Contender' Diddle that.

If Clouston does come in and is anything more than just a quick fix to ease the transition before the hiring of a more experienced coach, I will be seriously questioning this organization.

So we'll have three coaches on our payroll - Paddock, Hartsy and now Clouston...

We have become the Tampa Bay Lightning...
