Pardon the strong language, but last night's game commentary by Pierre McGuire reinforces why I usually mute him so I can watch the game in peace. I did mute it after halfway through the first, so am copying some of what our good friend Sens Chirp had to say about the "Monster" Pierre McGuire.

Just wanted to rant a little bit about TSN's Pierre McGuire. His two and half hour love in for everything Washington Capital tonight was nearly unbearable. While Alex Ovechkin is a world class player and a treat to watch, he struggled tonight while another NHL star excelled. Dany Heatley was the best player on the ice at both ends of the ice yet didn't make it on Pierre's radar until the last minute of play when he prevented a potential game tying goal. Time and time again McGuire ranted about the "cyborg" that is Alex Ovechkin as he continued to slam pucks into the glass behind Brian Elliott or into the shin pads of Senators defenders.

Elliott ended up being named McGuire's Monster but the only time I heard Pierre mention him was to once again criticize his rebound control and say he was not NHL ready.

I am usually a fan of Mcguire's but his on air bias for the Capitals tonight was a little over the top.

This sums it up for me. Usually I really enjoy McGuire's youthful exuberance for the game. He's got good insight and more often than not, good knowledge of the game. But how do you shut this Diddle guy up? Sometimes as an analyst enough is enough.

"Shut the Diddle up McGuire." I said that about 20 times last night. Unacceptable job by him last night.

On a footnote, Ovechkin is better than our entire team combined - not that it means McGuire needs make verbal love to him all night.

I agree. McGuire was hard to listen to last night. I was shocked that he named Elliott the "Monster" of the game. During the entire game he kept harping on Elliott for his rebound control. Ya, he let out some rebounds, but show me an NHL goalie who doesn't let out a rebound or two throughout the course of a game. Elliott's rebound control is amazing when compared to a goalie like Gerber, but I'd put him on par with an average NHL goalie when talking rebound control.

I'm glad you posted this SensFan71 - I have never been a big fan of McGuire's but wow - last night was something else. I swear I heard him moan a little when he was interviewing Ovechkin. How TSN can allow him to be so biased on a broadcast that features a Canadian team is beyond me - I would bet there were a lot of TV's muted last night.

I definitely figured we would not stand for this as Senators fans, there is no doubt that Washington is a great, young, talented team, but heck, enough is enough already, Ovechkin was glad he didn't get closer or McGuire might have tried to kiss him, sheesh, what a man crush he has. I much rather prefer watching Mendes on sportsnet, at least he is biased our way lol.

This all really comes as a surprise to me. Why you ask? Well for a guy who's loved Crosby for so long, I'm almost stunned that he still has vocal chords.

His "youthful exuberance" is reahearsed and manufactured. When he starts bouncing around while he talks during "1 Up - 1 Down" it makes me feel a little embarassed for him.

I tolerate the Name Droppers antics, but his barrage of criticism for Brian Elliott is just too much.

Elliott is the monster because he had to find a reason why Ovechkin didn't score.

The only explanation I have for this is because Crosby is having an off year and McGuire has followed his whatever you want to call it to greener pastures. It's almost like that football movie with James Van Der Beek (visions of the famous quote "I don't want your life" in a horrible Texas accent), the head cheerleader moves from the starting quarter back to the backup once the starter got injured. for shame McGuire.

Proof of this was in the first period when he interviewed Ovechkin he was quick to ask how his mouth was after getting high sticked. Ovechkin replied that it hit his shield and McGuire responded with "ok, good" in a empathetic tone.

Missing the morning show because I was so pissed, did Mcguire comment on how the 2nd goal shouldn't have been a goal that Steckel scored and how Steckel should be receiving a min 2 game suspension (similar to Ruutu) for the head shot..

No...didn't think so.

Yes McGuire can be annoying, but can anyone argue that Elliot's rebound control needs alot of work. I don't remember McGuire saying that Elliot will never get better just that he still has a ways to go. McGuire was also very complimentary of Elliot's work ethic.

As for anti Sens gang at TSN, they are just calling it like it is, there is a reason we are tied with Atlanta for 28th in a 30 team league.
