And can Yzerman suit up as the 2nd line center? He'd have more points at 40 than Fisher and Vermette combined. It would take him around a week.

If so, I have to say, I was starting to get used to the losing and looking forward to the possibility of landing Tavares and/or Hedman...

Besides whipping the boys into shape as Quinn is supposedly a master at doing, what could Stevie Y do to make this team INSTANTLY accountable and better?
I would suspect that if this goes down as indicated, it's because Melnyk feels that the entire organization needs a change of attitude and direction. I would also guess that he'd be doing this for the future, not for an immediate turn around. If this happened, I would then expect the "group of three" to dismantle the Sens, get picks and take advantage of the next two strong drafts to rebuild and re-mold the Sens organization.

Even if he could, he still couldn't play the point on the 1st PP unit like Mighty Mike can.

Other than that Murray has not been the problem in my books. He won the Tampa trade outright. He got us character players to start the year. The room is just poison. That falls on leadership of the team. Phillips has been piss poor and he is one I would like to see go. Alfie is worn down I think but he has been horrible lately. And Heatly is wearing an 'A' and he has been awful.

Perhaps the cheapest solution, give Smith an 'A' and give Neil or Donovan an 'A'. Strip the other two jokers. I would even think of relieving Alfie of the 'C'.

finally someone agrees with me....
Make that two people. I wouldn't strip Alfredsson of the C quite yet...It may be a Modano situation further down the line, but we don't have a suitable replacement for him.
Stripping Phillips is one possibility, but making Heatley an A was the most ridiculous move I've ever seen. Heatley can be as loud as he wants to be; he will never be the leader he fooled Hartsburg into thinking he was. Stripping him of the A is the least that should be done.

Madano was the captain for like 2 years, not a decade. If the Sens strip the C from Alfi, thats the day I become a Bruins fan again and just stop caring about anything Ottawa. Alfi is the captain, plain and simple.

He is still the MVP of this team, and even last night he was the one who created those 2 goals. Started both plays and Spezza finished them.

o.k. this seems to be mostly conjecture on MacKenzie's part, judging from posts on other reputable websites... But I suppose anything can happen.

Came across this post over at HF Boards by member Slamingo, and I have to say, I completely agree with his take...

"Every time the Sens met the Leafs in the play-offs, they were beat by a team that was better prepared and willing to do whatever it took to win the game. The Quinn coached teams ALWAYS play with a ton of heart.
The Sens do not. It's really evident when you see Heatley or Spezza or Alfredsson getting face-washed, pushed around, hit late, etc and nobody ever steps up.
It's also really evident in the back-checking that never seems to occur.

If Melnyk goes Nicholson/Yzerman/Quinn it makes a huge statement to the players and the fan base. It says that the ownership DESPERATELY wants to win and will do whatever it takes." Slamingo

Pass on the winning now. I'll take...winning late for $1000 Alex.

The problem is Eugene Melnyk will take winning now for 60-million and counting for this year alone, Alex.

hey, don't get me wrong, if somehow : 1)this rumor actually comes to fruition, we'll see what develops; and 2) if that move allows these guys to turn a corner, or more accurately go on a massive tear and make a decent attempt at the post-season, 2nd or even 3rd round, then so be it, but I just don't think it's realistic...

EDIT: also, the fact that TSN has no report on anything brewing in the nation's capital gives me pause, nor does the Sens website have any indication that a presser is upcoming... This could be like many sens rumors and nothing more...

Yeah...but he's got the $$, he makes good money from attendance and concessions, he made good $$ off the world juniors. He wants to win now, but he's not dumb enough to think it can still happen this year.

Take the high pick, get more picks, and reload.

Now I really wonder as to the tone of the discussion between Stevie Y and Spezza at the world's last year.

Dumb's got nothing to do with it. But he's probably desperate enough to do whatever he thinks it takes to make it happen this year.

I am with you on that one N4. Stripping Alfie of the C will never happen but if it did, it would be the worst, scummiest thing ever. I would also consider giving up on this franchise (at least for a year or two).

I am certain that any prospect GM that Melnyk interviews (or talks to) will do everything to lower his expectations for this year; otherwise, it would be suicidal. These are not blubbering idiots we're talking about.

I just got a free third Jersey from the Sens for being involved in a focus group. For all those conspiracy theorist out there; the Jersey has his name and number but no C on the front. Hmmmm...Wink
