Absolutely -- I don't think anyone expects him to become a hitter; but we need him to become more difficult to push around.  He's worked himself up to just over 200, working out last year all summer with Turris under Schwartz.  He won't have as much time to do that this year -- season ended late and he just got married.  Still, he can certainly put in 6-8 weeks of solid training before the main camp begins.  And maybe some home cookin' will help pack on some weight.

Excellent points it's not just size, it's strength. Same deal with Turris.

The big thing is that they will have a real training camp under MacLean this year, not the one week crash course coming out of the lock out.

Few expected him to have the season he did last year.  He's got skills.

I believe he said he wants to model his game after Gonchar so I don't think you'll be seeing him throwing crushing body checks despite his height.  He might be a Kuba-type D-man.

Yes, exactly this. I don't need him to be a hitter, we'll have Cowen, Methot, Gryba, Phillips/Boro to do that, but he needs to be able to stake a claim in the defensive zone by adding major core strength.

True, forgot about that. We were all so excited about Turris having a real camp as opposed to sitting out, and getting to know the team and his linemates right away, but the truth is there was no camp to speak of. He did get to know his linemates -- well, at least one of them -- but there's still room for him to improve simply from being better prepared for the season.

Same for Wiercioch -- maybe even more so. Last season he started out in Bingo, didn't he? He was not really expecting more than some callups. Then, wham, he's playing major minutes in a compacted season.

Yep Turris has been fantastic and he has never had a real training camp with the team. Even more amazing is that he was traded for a 2nd rounder and a player who may not even play in the NHL.

With a compacted schedule like they had as well, that's a huge factor in those two being pushed around a little. Some guys have problems keeping weight on at the best of times let alone putting it on and playing every single night while having to eat something like 4000 cals a day is near impossible to achieve the goals you set out for your bodies.

Give them a full summer here where the cardio is kept to a minimum and they just weight train and you will see a massive improvement. They will both be fine.

I wish I had their problem Sad

A short while after that tweet someone else tweeted that they spoke earlier and will speak again later. Garrioch is a bit behind.

Give your heads a shake if you think Alfie will even consider signing with another team. Jesus.

The Alfie's agent might use other teams' offers to up his price tag here a bit, but he will certainly be resigned...this if The Alfie.

I'm not going to talk about Alfi for the same reason I wouldn't talk about him going to Boston at the deadline... it's stupid and a waste of time.

The guy that seems to be making sense in terms of a depth D man is Russel. Here's a guy Murray wanted a while back, was moved way down the depth chart in St.Louis because of their depth in a very defensive system, and he can be had for a song and dance. Good depth guy that can run an NHL PP if need be and a guy that will make sure guys like Wiercioch stay honest. You need that left handed shot on the point and Russel/Wiercioch will be fighting for it all year long. Karlsson will be playing the full 2 each time. Zero risk, minimal salary, IMO a fairly large reward if things work out.

Garrioch's latest tweets are quotes from Mayor Chiarelli vaguely suggesting he's pursuing The Alfie.

Chiarelli can go Diddle himself if he thinks he can just get anyone from Ottawa because he worked here.

Bruins have only $5M in cap space and Rask will be getting $7M. No idea how they plan to pull that off.

Besides what are the odds they go deep into the playoffs again after the late finish and injuries ?

Why are you people even talking about it? It's not going to happen.

I know.

I am just really sick of the media (especially LeBrun) starting this Alfie to Boston crap. It happened at the deadline and it's happening again.

Boston needs RW, Chiarelli used to work for Ottawa .... hey guys how about Alfie to Boston !!!

Just venting, it's beyond Cussing annoying at this point.

Like everyone else here I am sure Alfie is my favorite player. I generally don't care much for individual players and care more for my team but #11 is the big exception. I am hoping to take my son to a game(now that he is almost old enough) to see him play here in Ottawa and maybe somehow finally get his autograph.

Even though I know it won't happen the almost non-constant media writing that Alfie could play elsewhere pisses me off to end.
