Z. Michalek update from LeBrun:

"We are still talking to Phoenix and hoping to get a deal done with
them," Michalek's agent, veteran Allan Walsh of Octagon, told ESPN.com
via e-mail Tuesday afternoon. "They have been great to Z and he would
love to stay."

Does everybody who's name starts with a 'Z' have to be nicknamed 'Z'? lol

Well, it's official, Cheechoo has been bought out.

BUYOUTS
Cheechoo, Jonathan »$666,667$1,166,667
Alfredsson, Daniel »$700,000$700,000
Emery, Ray »$562,500$562,500

Goodness, that messes things up for us a bit.

It says we have $9,359,166 in cap space to sign our RFAs and some of our UFAs Cullen/Sutton.

The more I think of it the more I'd rather have a Gonchar than a Sutton. One can dream... Sens on July 1st, Free Agents, Trades - Interesting storylines to watch. - Page 2 542150

Gonchar
negotiation isn't progressing. He wants to play at least 4 more years
and wants to play in 2014 Olympics. Pitt wants 2 year deal.

Wow, he's got some high hopes for himself. Why would he say he's gong to play for teh Olympics? That would be enough to scare some teams off...

Why is Alfredsson on buyouts?

I believe it's part of a bonus that was to be paid to him for signing at a reduced rate. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone. Sens on July 1st, Free Agents, Trades - Interesting storylines to watch. - Page 2 159628

It's in Russia and that's a ton of motivation.

If The Sens could get Gonchar locked up for 4 years at a cap hit of under 5 mil, you do it, the reward outweighs the risk in a big way.

I thought the cap was going up to 59.2 but it says 59.4 on cap geek. Not that it makes that much of a difference, but still.

Absolutely! Please! I'd do it right now if I could. Thing is, what is he looking for in terms of money? We know the term...what's the $$

On a 5 year contract, that's 1 million dollar, not a lot but it could be the difference for a player.

What a ridiculously large hit that is for next year for Cheechoo. Is that a mistake? $1,166,667

EDIT: Next year as in 2011-2012.

True, I didn't think of it that way.

Gonchar being here would take so much pressure off the young D in Ottawa for a few years, almost invaluable.

Did the cap hit work out that way for Cheechoo because the Sens wanted it to? Or is that the way it works? I thought it would be an equal amount spread out over 3 years or something of the sort.

The plus side for us is when we have to eat that cap hit next season, Kovalev will be off the books.

Current year 3 (salary) - 2.33 (buyout) = 666k
Next year cap hit = 1/2 the buy out =1.165
