What is Jokinen's contract like?

Pro-rated, just slightly above 1 million.

Agreed. J. Jokinen is useless. It would be nice to have him around for shootouts, I suppose, but he's soft and lazy. If you think Spezza is annoying to watch in terms of puck pursuit and board play, well, Jokinen suffers from the same problems, but with 1/10th the talent to make up for those defects.

Pass.

Yeah? Okay then. I only remember watching him in Dallas - and finding him very, very talented and quite good. It seems like everyone who goes to TB molds and dies, so I was thinking he'd be a nice pickup for next to nothing.

But if you've been watching TB (I rarely do) and think he sucks, then I'll buy into that.

I do.

Jokinen played himself off that team. Yea, Halpern returning was the move that triggers this waiving, but the fact is that he's been displaced by guys like Paul Szczechura and Radek Smolenak.

Who? Yea, I know.

Then again, TB is a mess, and maybe all he needs is a change of scenery and legitimate top-6 minutes (which he wasn't getting). Best of luck to him, but I don't really see him bringing anything other to OTT than more of the same.

For a "lunch pail" team that will be playing for a tie on many nights a shootout specialist could get us extra points in the standings on his own.

I think this guy said it best. ^^^^

As per Sportsnet's flaws:
Jokinen
Isn't very big, and can be intimidated by big NHL defensemen. Is considered 'soft' by NHL standards, and must get stronger.

Yep, soft is the appropriate word.

Assets:

Is skilled and polished. Rarely makes mistakes with the puck and is also a sound positional forward. Oozes offensive potential. Excels in shootouts.

Top six forward.

Sorry, I still want him. I can't help it, he was being killed in TB, he needs a fresh lease on life. A TB fan was just saying how stupid this was and how the guy always puts in the effort and is a victim of Tochet not liking him.

This is a no-brainer pick up. Especially because it would cost 1 million and he's an RFA this upcoming summer and he can play center or wing.

No-brainer.

a No-brainer UNLESS Murray's waiting for Rex...I gotta say, he still hasn't slowed down, if you want a top 6, wait for, and take Rechi not Jussi....

or you could always take Jussi and then Waive him when (not if) the next Bolt goes on waivers Smile

Yeah, I've wanted Rechi for a while.

Yeah, I've wanted Rechi for a while.

If any of this is Tocchet's doing, I wouldn't hold my breath for Recchi.

Jokinen is a golden opportunity on the eve of a long and difficult road trip.

Yeah, who knows.

Hell, Murray just might make the move for the sake of making the move, hoping to shake the team up. It would give the team another option, for relatively cheap (as you say), as well as creating competition for play on a nightly basis.

I guess I wouldn't be shocked if it happened, but nor would I be excited. We're not one J. Jokinen away from turning things around. The team we have in place now has to get its Dung together if it's going to go anywhere.

Still, lots of variables to consider here. Jokinen is decidedly not a "Murray" type player. And who knows what a suddenly-nervous-about-the-economy Melnyk might have to say about bringing on more salary.

Very sensible post, rooney.

By the way, Jokinen today would be 4th in scoring among our forwards right now.

What could it possibly hurt to pick up Jokinen? I've seen this guy and he has hands made of silk. We need more skill...and to get some of it for free wouldn't exactly be the worst move to make.

As of last week i think he was 1 for 6 in the shootout so far this year.

I'm torn. I'm all for losing every game this season, and his shoot-out prowess could add points to our total.

Good potential, though. I think Zubov and Jokinen could be a good tandem.

Honestly, why not pick him up though? He's an RFA at the end of the year, and worst case scenario if he doesn't work out, is we trade him, or let him walk. Or whatever.
