I’m gonna take a stab at the Tkachuk contract

Bridge deal
5mill yr 1 - 6 mill yr 2 5.5 AAV

Long term deal

If the sens want to be able to sign Tkachuk to a long term they will have to break their no bonus rule and pay him two bonuses. One this year because escrow is likely to be bad and one on the year the CBA gets renegotiated in case there’s a lock out.
That said the sens only get a MNTC on the year where he would start his UFA years as if Tkachuk becomes disenchanted with the sens before then, they have a greater list of destination they can send him to. Last for years is MNTC, Tkachuk submits a list of 8 teams he’ll be moved to.

I don’t think the sens do a bridge deal that is longer than 2 years and neither does Tkachuk. Getting near one year away from his UFA years proves too risky. Look at mark stone. If Tkachuk wants a bridge it will be significantly smaller than at what may be rumoured at around 7 mill.

And obviously the sens make Tkachuk the captain and they explain to the media that the sens captain is the only player that may negotiate a bonus into his deal. This nulls further players attempting to get one.

When is the first rookie game? I'm assuming it's this week?

Sokolov turning heads at the DC. Best player on the ice and it's not close. He dropped some weight in the off-season and got leaner and (I'm guessing) faster. A starting third line of Paul-White-Sokolov is not out of the question.

I'd start him there too but could see him taking a few shifts with Jimmy and Pinto feeding him pucks. Sounds like he is a goal scorer and I am not convinced he will score goals with White and Paul on his line. We may also see White as our 2C so a line with Jimmy, White and Sokolov might be an option. We are really missing a C right now.

I'd love to see Sokolov start with the big club, if only because I think he'd be working his arse off to stay in the lineup.

Apparently the reports are he's flying into Toronto today. I am assuming an announcement is coming for tomorrow if this is the case. Otherwise maybe he just wants to be closer to his friends at 590.

Yes. I was being facetious. I expect something announced tomorrow. Not a bridge, perhaps not 8 years but perhaps something that buys a few UFA years (ie: 6 or 7 years). I do expect and hope it is 8 years though so we don't have to deal with this again until he is 30.

Part of me prefers 8 but if he gets 6 I don’t know that he doesn’t resigns with us after if we manage to win a cup by then. Then you give him another 6-7 deal. He’s built like a truck. He can handle it.

Fingers crossed for an imminent Brady-signing although Garrioch said Melnyk being in town has nothing to do with a Brady signing, and replied to some twitter guy who asked if Brady would sign today with a "probably not".

This weird media battle between Bruce and Simmer is just really dumb, and apparently there are zero other media members that know anything about what's going on. And if you assume Simmer is a little nuts, and that Bruce is just a mouth-piece, there are actually zero "insiders" giving us any legit info. And then we're back to good old fashioned "Brady is getting on an airplane", "Eugene is in town", etc.... Just wake me up when a contract is signed.

What about Elliotte Friedman? While he didn't come out and say it it sounded like his "sources" were someone other than Garrioch. According to his report if things didn't get done hammering out an 8 year extension that they would switch to working on a shorter term deal. Based on what he said (3 days ago, I believe) this is where things are now. Melnyk being in town likely doesn't have much to do with Brady, at least not directly (otherwise he would have gone to St. Louis -- I doubt Melnyk would have much interest in talking to Brady's car). On the other hand he may very well want to talk to Dorion, directly. There's little hope, at this point, of a long-term deal being done but, possibly, he may want to hear from the horse's mouth what the sticking points are (likely bonus clauses, salary escalation, etc.)

The Habs/Sens rookie game tomorrow will be live-streamed on the #Sens YouTube channel. The Habs camp roster includes 11 players on tryouts. Many of their top prospects are playing in the NCAA and can't be in camp. It *should* be a cake walk for the Sens rookies. That said, players on tryout invites are typically older and eager to prove themselves so it could be a little rough.
