He got something for not taking Vaatanen.

He really should have just taken the best players available and not make any deals. Those deals are all meant to circumvent the rules of the draft.

Next time around I hope they do away with those.
Well they got theadore. Not a bad pick up at all.

But I agree that Vegas is getting way too much out of this expansion draft. And it's not even over yet!

They got a few decent players and a bunch of middle draft picks.  Nothing that's going to turn them into a good team.  It's going to take a while.
Sure it's not the just the players, it's the first rounders and prospects. Let's see how much they get after they trade half the team.
Just seems like a huge gap from what other expansion teams got in the past. I guess that's what half a billion buys you.

Eberle trade to NYI for Strome straight-up.

Trevor Van Riemsdyk traded from Vegas to Carolina for a 2nd and 7th.

They will need additional revenue to allow teams to be competitive when one player makes that much.

This is how a cap system is supposed to work.  It cases distribution of talent.

It's funny because I'm not entirely opposed to the idea. I just see it as a necessity if teams are tocover costs and make money. Of course they will have to severely work out how to go about that. I'm sure some bigger market teams could have an absolute advantage. Is there any revenu sharing possibility? Possibly.

I just hope the cap remains a hard cap. Watching the NBA is a joke and I have no doubts that Toronto and Montreal would pay into a luxury tax to ice the best teams.

The problem is the max salary being 20% of the cap. Did they take that straight out of the NBA CBA? You can get away with that in the NBA because of the roster size difference. Your top line NHL forward is on the ice for 1/3 of the time. You still need high the talent for the second line. In basketball you can literally have 3 superstars who are on 30-45 minutes and scrubs the rest of the roster

With the cap projected to go to $75M the max salary is $15M. At 15% it would be $11.25M.

Let's say Crosby and Malkin are making the max, or $30M. That leaves $45M for the remaining 21 player's on the roster. With the minimum salary below $600K you can certainly do that, but you are not winning back to back Cups.

Oshie is only 7 months younger than Radulov. Remember how everyone said he would never get more than 4-5 years at anywhere near $6M?  Ok, so the Habs are the only ones who could give him 8, that's not going to happen. But he could legitimately ask for 7 x $6M.

That is how a hard cap can create competitive balance.  Chicago is the perfect example.  Pay the top players what they are worth.  I hope Karlsson gets 12M.

Yeah I agree. 15% would be more reasonable. Salaries will get insanely high. Guess we still have a long ways to wait till the next CBA?
