Brown and Chlapik especially.

Max Reinhart was very good too.

Dreger says Garrioch is correct in his report that Ottawa is aggressively after Duchene

Freddy C played pretty well too. Another capable Methot replacement. Turns out the Sens knew what they were doing (so far).

Claesson is very good. I'm excited for his progress this year. Harper''s good too.

I don't see the point in trading Ceci. It's looking like he's going to break out in a big way

Based on?

His advanced stats suggest he is not a good defenseman. The 'eye' test suggests he's not very good either.

Time will tell but if he's the key piece to bring in Duchene then see you never.

I don't care about advanced stats so won't comment, but he passes the eye test for me. If he was soooooo bad like so many people say, he wouldn't have been counted on to be the team's #3 defenseman all year in a deep playoff run season. People said things like Wideman is better. Lol give me a break.

Duchene is overrated. Hasn't done much in the last few years. Good player, but it needs to be the right cost. Ceci + 1st+ prospect is a complete overpayment.

Ceci was used as our #1 shut down d-man. That is going to pay off huge for him. Last year was about soaking that all in, and now he can focus more on offense like he did in junior. In junior he started off as a defensive d-man. And with Karlsson probably missing some time, he will have a chance to shine to start the season.

I don't see anyone close behind Ceci that could replace him right now.

It sounds like Chabot will be playing on his off side paired with Phaneuf. There could very well be a real push from Jaros who is a RD, Harpur who can play on his off side, and Wideman.

Oduya-Karlsson
Phaneuf-Chabot
Claesson-XXXXX

Ceci, Boro, Wideman, Jaros, Harpur, Englund all vying for that one spot.

Ceci is making $3.35M in salary this year and is an RFA at the end of the season. For a 'cap team' he's not worth the cost especially if they plan on re-signing Turris and Stone, and Karlsson the year after.

I also believe the Sens lost a lough of 'toughness' by not re-signing Neil. If Boro is a regular healthy scratch then a lot is going to fall on the shoulders of Smith and Thompson?

This isn't so much me crapping all over Ceci as much as it is me justifying that he's not worth the cost, there are suitable replacements, and you may as well trade him while he still has value as a young player with potential.

Ceci should not be lumped in with those players. He isn't playing for a spot. If he's on this team, his spot is locked up. He's not in any sort of competition for a roster spot.

If his role is as a 5-6 pairing d-man then he's not worth $3.35M per year when cheaper options are out there.

That's different than saying he;s vying for a spot. He's definitely worth the $3 million when he is the top PK D and played the 3rd most minutes last year. He would be ahead of Oduya and Chabot in minutes.

If we get Duchene for Ceci (no-one else from active roster) then our 1st may very well be a very, very late first. So Ceci+first+prospect is not at all an overpayment, so long as the "prospect" is not Chabot. Which is what the Avs want, of course.

I can see Chabot playing in Ottawa to start the season, but when Karlsson is back do you really think Chabot, first year pro, would be playing on his off-side on the second pairing?

Englund does not look ready. We've seen Jaros in *one* pre-season game; let's see how he fares in Belleville. Harpur led the team in TOI (overall and short-handed). He may actually be a lot closer than I thought last year. Granted, he wasn't out there against Matthews/Nylander but that's not who he'd be playing against in the regular season, either.

If we get Duchene for Ceci, ok, but saying he's not worth the cost is ridiculous. He's 23, for Pete's sake, and he played *more* than Methot last year.

I just cannot understand how the Leafs could be this bad against that lineup. Seriously, do you think you can name the mandatory 10 "veterans" the Sens played last night?

Condon
Borowiecki
Wideman
Pyatt
Thompson
Vandevelde

Claesson has 49 NHL games, is that "veteran"? Oh, Blunden has over 120.

That's still only 8. McCormick somehow has 27 games; same for Randell. Hardly a veteran, but ok, I guess that's 10.

I thought the cut-off was over 30 games played in the NHL.
