"After two enjoyable years learning about the front office of hockey with the Senators, I'm pleased to pass along that I've made the decision to step away from the game and will take this time to evaluate what professional challenge I will pursue next."

"I want to thank the Senators for the opportunity; it has enabled me to understand the type of commitments required to work in hockey should I determine that to be my future path. Our first order of business is getting established in our new home in Ottawa and returning to Gothenburg, with my family, to visit Swedish family and friends for the summer. We look forward to sharing the details of what's next for the Alfredsson family in the future."

Also I imagine white won't be handed a spot but I imagine he will start omthe RW when he does make the team. Not a center.

Yeah he'd be good here

It's a bit odd but maybe he wants to be closer to his family. Hard to tell from that statement. Seems like the org is keeping the door open to him. I hope he returns one day.

As predicted by moi and contrary to popular analyst predictions, the sens did not go after a Dman.

I'll go ahead and predict that this team takes a step back next year. Not saying we don't make he playoffs but likely not get past the first two rounds if we do. Not saying it's a terrible thing. This is a year where a lot will be transitioned to younger players. We will likely see chabot, white and Paul make the club throughout the year and guys like claesson cement a spot in the line-up.

Still be exiting hockey. Maybe Dorion makes a big trade for a top LW during the season.

I don't see us taking a step back. We will be a better team imo. We have way better depth now.

Maybe. I just see a learning curve for youth and also some sophomore slumps could happen.

I'd still like a dman personally and I'd still like a guy like jagr, but even without it's a competitive team.

I think without a Dman and another top LW we're ok. But it's one injury away from not being ok. I think we are borderline competitive which is not what you want for your team going forward.

Off season isn't over I guess. I'd gladly take Markov at this point, even on a two years. but I don't see the sens going for that.

As for that LW, that would likely have to come via trade. Jagr is an interesting name out there for you and me but he's not so fast anymore and that's probably something the team wants to do without.

Not sure anymore.

Hoffman - Turris - Stone
Mac - Brassard - Ryan
Smith - Pageau - Burrows
Dzingel - Thompson - Pyatt
White

Claesson - Karlsson
Phaneuf - Ceci
Boro - Wideman
Harper/Chabot/Englund

Better team than we started out with last year when Lazar, Neil, Kelly (who I liked) etc. were there.

Fair point. Still lacking depth though. And I'm not completely sure Claesson is ready for top 4 duties let alone top 2

Keep in mind that Methot was 4th on the team in TOI/G (Karlsson, Ceci, Phaneuf were top three). Simple fact of the matter is that Karlsson plays with pretty much everyone. Claesson's TOI was still significantly lower than Methot's, but he won't need to replace all of it.

Johansson traded to NJ for a 2nd and a 3rd. Why couldn't we offer that to get him? He would have been good on the left side

We are ok on the left (Hoff, CMac, Smith, Dzingel, White, Paul).

I think white plays C and RW as for all the other names I think he'd be an upgrade in the LW on the second line.
There's no knowing if mac will last or be as effective as past years and I'd rather have smith not playing on the top 2 lines. Dzingel hasn't proven he should be a top 6. Do we have depth on the LW? Yes. Do we have a sure Dung top 6? No

Yeah, White is C and RW. The only guys we should be counting on for LW is Hoff and Smith, with CMac for the 3rd line. Anyway, positions can ALWAYS be upgraded. The only reasons the Caps dealt this guy is because they're in cap hell. He's a legit 20 goal/50 point guy that has an entirely reasonable cap hit ($4.6M) for two more seasons. He's exactly the type of guy we should be looking to bring in if we're serious about "winning now". He even has 15 playoff points in 25 games over the past two seasons.

They also have another legit 20-goal, 50-pt player they just re-signed to an 8-year $60+M contract. Weird.

Sorry about flipping White on the wrong side. MacArthur is a better option than Smith; he's my 2nd line left winger. Smith is good on the third line, killing penalties and sliding up in needed. Can't go into the season expecting CMac to have another concussion. You think Boston does that with Bergeron? And if something does happen, you promote Smith and see what's out there. Until then you keep developing your prospects.
