Stupid move from Calgary to trade for Elliott who had the benefit to play on a very good defensive team. Not gonna shine that much Calgary.
Should of went after fleury or bishop.

They did go after bishop. Elliott is a huge upgrade on what they have and he is very underrated. Love the move for Calgary

Elliott is a good goalie but he does have some history of folding under pressure.

They got the bargain bin goalie instead of the elite one. Not the greatest move imo.

It's debatable given they both played on great teams. Bishop is not somebody I'd want to be locked into for years and he was much harder to acquire. He wants a 49 million dollar contract for 7 years. Elliott has just as much big game experience too.

Yeah, the price for Bishop would've been way higher and also he only has one year left. He probably wouldn't have wanted to stay in Calgary.

He said he would sign a 7 x 7, although I agree he's fragile, physically and mentally. Still very good though, better than Ellicott.

There really is no question which of the two (Bishop/Elliott) is the better goalie, but you cannot simply get the best player at every position. We have no idea what their internal budget is, but they've got to have one. They have three RFAs to re-sign (Monahan, Gaudreau, Colborne) plus another forward or two. That's got to be around $12M+, you add the extra $4.5M for Bishop over Elliott and you're talking about $66M. If Tkachuk makes the team add another $2M (including bonuses). Don't talk to me about delaying bonuses because this is a budget team, not a cap team, so *real* salary matters. Don't forget that business is not exactly doing well in Calgary.

I'd say Bishop gets TB maybe a 2017 first-rounder from a decent team at best...assuming Yzerman is willing to trade him for that.

That's not much, but perhaps. I think it might be a roster player in a one for one, but who knows...

A couple of things go into that. Some average goalies have won the Cup and many "elite" ones haven't.
