No one has any good rumours anymore, it's annoying,. It's all speculation from nobodys. It's an ex citing time though, you never know when something might happen. ..

Sounds like the cap is going up because of an nhlpa vote of a 5% escalator. 73-74 apparently?

Sounds like young Mr. Drouin has rescinded his trade request (demand). Now, before everyone gets blamey about that, it doesn't mean that the Sens "missed the boat" or "blew the trade" or whatever. I'm guessing Yzerman knew exactly what he had there and wasn't going to move him unless he was winning the trade.

So, for anyone who thinks that the Sens lost out on a trade or weren't aggressive enough, ask yourself if you'd want to lose on that trade. Imagine sending a 1st, Chabot/White, and Hoffman or something along those lines. I'm guessing the ask wasn't too far from that.

So my prediction of Stamkos to Detroit from a few months back is looking better and better every day. I fully expect this to happen. Does Ottawa eat the Datsyuk cap hit if the cap goes up in exchange for some picks/prospects?

I can also see a situation where EDM trades us the #4 pick with our #12 and Lazar+ or Methot going back. Should be some decent d-men available at #12 for Edm.

Based on the rumours the ask was a young, RH D, NHL ready or already in the league.

If Ceci could have got Drouin we should all be sick to our stomachs that it didn't happen.

I think the ask was Ceci and a 1st and went down to (Chabot/white), 1st and another moving part. I'm quite ok with keeping Chabot/white and it's too early to say if the first was worth keeping. As for Hoffman it's a bit interesting that no contract has been done so far. Could be traded I guess. I'm afraid the return would be underwhelming And wouldn't adress his departure.

If I remember correctly they wanted Ceci and White. At the time Drouin had not done anything at the NHL level. I wouldn't have done it either

No one is coming in at $4.5M and scoring 30+ goals so yeah whatever we acquire via trade will be underwhelming. That is unless it is to a team like Colorado who can use the cap savings to help sign someone like Barrie

To Ott: Duchene
To Colorado: Hoffman, White ($ to sign RFA Barrie)

Well, I was a big negative nancy when it came to duschene being traded but I think you are on the right track. I think a D man has to be going the other way though. They are trying to adress that part of their team the most.

What's driving this Stamkos to Detroit rumor? It makes no sense to me.

He's either going to Toronto, Chicago (they'll find a way around their cap hell), or staying in Tampa.

I think Tampa and Toronto are out. Detroit and Buffalo seem to be the front-runners now.

Yeah I don't see how you can make Chicago make that happen.

Detroit makes sense to me but not Buffalo. They have their 2 first C's. Detroit losing datsyuk leaves the door wide open. Will it help them become top contenders? I don't think so.

Toronto makes sense but it's also wasting his best years away. They will offer him a lot though.

He wants to be close to Toronto, in a hockey market, but not in the hotbed of Toronto. Detroit has a need, the cap (if they can trade Datsyuk cap hit), close to Toronto. Makes perfect sense.

They get their defenceman if they can re-sign Barrie. They also have Matthias and Boedker as RFA's which they can use that cap space to sign a d-man or trade their 1st rd pick.

Even with Barrie they still want a top 4 D. Their D is atrocious.
Boedker and Matthias are UFA and Boedker isn't looking like he will resign.

They need to move a good player for a solid D. It can't get much clearer than that. You'd have to include Ceci. Doubt that happens.

I'll play devil's advocate here. Why would Colorado trade Duchene to save money and bolster their defence, but take Hoffman who's about to make 4.75-5.5 a year? If anything, they take a lower cap hit - ie Zibanejad and we have to add in the 12thOV (IMO).
