Maybe there's something up with St Louis, but the more likely scenario, I think, is something like Wiercioch + Hoffman for Drouin and a pick.

No way.  Hoffman is worth way more than Drouin right now.  He scored 27 last year and is on pace for 30+ this year.  30 goal scorers don't grow on trees.

I've explained why you're wrong before, so I won't bother this time around.  I will say that nobody should get too attached to Mike Hoffy Hoffman.

I think you're the one who's wrong, old friend, I don't understand the hatred towards young Mr. Hoffman.  Anyways, I think he's greatly undervalued in the sens community.

I think it's as simple as the team would rather pay Ceci 4 million than pay Hoffman 5.5

Who is going to provide Hoffman's goals then ?

I didn't realize I hated Hoffman. I actually very much appreciate what he brings to the team.

Tim: I didn't mean that you specifically hate him; I was reflecting about what I hear around the Sens community and on this site.

I see both sides. The guy is a pure goal scorer, but also has big holes in the rest of his game to accompany a seemingly bad attitude.

He actually can't, can he?  he's still a teenager.  I'm not sure he's ready for the big show though (right out of college ?!?).  Especially not as #2Centerman.

No, White is in the NCAA so he doesn't fall under the CHL rules. He can play in the AHL. I think Ev just meant that he doesn't need to.

Yeah we got some characters on this site.

Ev hates Hoffman and yet thinks we can get rid of our depth cuz Colin White is gonna step in and score 30 goals next year.

SSF thinks Ceci is worth trading to get Drouin who's an unproven commodity (negative trade value IMO) while not realizing the hole Ceci's absence will leave.

And prags is a closet habs fan who let's just say isn't as enamored with Craig Anderson as the rest of us.

ANd anyone who thinks Hoffman should be traded for Drouin....Facepalm

Apart from Ev, I don't think anyone hates Hoffman Sarcasm .
If anything, I think there's a fear that he may want to bolt from the sens sooner rather than later but the truth about all that is no one knows for sure.

If we can retain Hoffman I think that's optimal. Without him I think it leaves quite a big hole on the LW that we already seem to have.

I think best case scenario is we find another LW between now and the start of next season either via trade or FA *cough Boedker cough*

We all know Hoffman isn't the perfect player but we are much MUCH better with him than without him.

I'm actually not a huge fan of Hoffman either. It's easy to be blinded by his amazing skill, speed and goal scoring prowess, but when the chips are down, the kid can really disappear. Is he worth 5.75 or whatever on a 5 year term? Not sure...at all.

And Drouin doesn't have negative value, he has massive value. We're not getting him for Wiercioch and a 2nd or something silly like that. I heard someone say Chabot and a 1st, and that's ludicrous, but it's probably closer than what we think here.

You're right. Chabot and a first looks like what it would take today.

I think we are being overly critical over Hoffman and his disappearing act. I don't think it's that common and we give a pass to pretty much everyone else that does it. If you ask me Zib is much more a disappearing act. Like I said, he's not a perfect player but what he has is pretty amazing and well worth a 5 contract.

The bolded are based on what? Drouin only has potential and the problem is everyone buying into the hype from media because he scored some dazzling goals in junior but hasn't done Dung in the nhl.

Meanwhile, not sure why ppl think hoffman disappears. He scored some clutch goals last season (tied game versus pitts, scored lone goal to keep series alive against mtl) and has several GWG this season. I think this market has forgotten how to get behind a sniper since heatley screwed us over and spezza collected points when the game was out of reach, and all that crud...

Me neither. He's made some mistakes recently, but he's also been playing pretty well without the puck. He hussles back and covers for D when he needs to. I don't have any major problems with his game.

Right? It's like ppl forget Bobby Ryan disappeared for 20 games last season (the most crucial games to boot), but no one is rushing to ship him out of town. Though I can understand it's the contract situation for Hoffman weighing on the minds whereas Bobby Ryan is signed long term.

You guys can debate the merits of Hoffman's on-ice performance all you want, but the other half of the debate is whether or not he actually wants to stay in Ottawa long-term.

We had to go get Phaneuf, or someone else of a proven Top 3 calibre, to help Ceci. So, assuming we trade Ceci do you think it will be harder to find someone to help Phaneuf than it was to find someone to help Ceci? I sure don't.

I would rather take a chance on a 3rd overall pick who has done quite well in the NHL with limited minutes and lesser linemates, and have more than enough money to keep Hoffman than pass on Drouin, and sign Ceci to a deal that forces you to deal Hoffman.

I can't really quantify Hoffman and his disappearing. When Stone and Ryan disappear, they at least add something to the lineup, particularly Stone, but when Hoffman disappears, he's near invisible. You can see him trying to get skating, but well coached teams know to keep him well in check so he can't get going - and then he's useless. That said, I appreciate the comment on him coming back and backchecking, he's been doing a good job of it recently.

Zibanejad is a whole different issue, I'm really annoyed with him and would like to upgrade him pronto.

Drouin is a major prospect or whatever you'd call him at 20. He's got pedigree and has already put up 40 points in ~80 games playing nowhere near the top 6. He'll cost a lot.
