Good pick ups for Chicago but I wonder if the old saying "throwing Dung at the wall and hope it sticks" isn't startine to look like what Chicago is doing. Could be a costly mistake if they don't win the cup
Chicago has a nice system going.   They identified a great core, add at the deadline and recoup the assets when they are forced to move secondary players like Ladd, Buff, Leddy, Saad, Frolik, etc...

The key is they don't unload their best prospects for rentals, they use picks and second tier prospects.

That's actually not true. They just unloaded their top prospect Dano and Danaault  was a rguably their beet after him. Their prospect cupboard us bare. If they don't win the cup they will be looking at a darker future as both Ladd and panarin will be gone.

I don't like this latest trade at all for them.
Panaerin isn't going anywhere.
They still have Teraveinin, Hartman, Panaerin, Pokka and McNeil.

Teravianen is not a prospect. Panarin is not a prospect.  Hartman is not a great prospect.  McNeil is basically fourth line potential.

Panarin most likely will be too expensive for them to resign after one good year playing with the tip point scorer in the league.
Whatever. People have foreseen their demise for years, yet they still keep moving along. They will find a way to unload the Bickell contract to free up space.

You do realize that Panarin still has a year left on his deal.

Yes I meant after he is done.

Hopefully he regresses next year for their sake.

Their window is small. Their D is aging. They need to win it this year. Especially since Kane won't repeat this season

Chicago dealt Byfuglien (and scraps) for a 1st and 2nd and scraps. Those two picks ended up being Kevin Hayes (now with the Rangers -- he never signed with the Hawks) and Justin Holl (now with the Marlies).

I know it was a salary cap move but it goes to show how unpredictable even first/second rounders can be.

Last year they gave up Saad, arguably one of their top prospects. Again, a move imposed by salary cap rules but also helped along by the massive contracts given out to Toews/Kane.

Now that the NHLPA has gotten their 50% of HRR you'd think they wouldn't be against a move to reduce the max cap hit -- I believe it's currently at 20% of the ceiling which is way too high. I don't think dropping it to 15% would affect any existing contracts (cap going up again, I hear). I'd even argue as far as dropping it to 12.5% (1/8th of ceiling). Would make it easier to hang on to players you developed.

He wasn't an established player, either. "Prospect" doesn't mean not on the roster. He was still a prospect in that sense.

No, he was not a proepsct in any sense. He was a 50 point player in 206 games before being traded. That is certainly an established player.

Teams are calling Ottawa asking about Alex Chiasson. B.Murray is listening, but not eager to trade him. Something to watch.

Add that to the speculation that both Wiercioch and Prince could be Florida-bound.

LOL, how Chiaisson's contract an anchor. He makes 4th line money on a 1 year deal.

I really don't understand the situation with Prince. I'm always impressed with his ability to generate chances from any line, and yet he can't get playing time. We've all heard about his off-ice attitude, and I'm sure that's a factor, but from a pure observer standpoint, I don't get why he's the first to get scratched all the time.

Yup. It's been a weird one. Murray and Cameron seem to be in the same page on this one. A lot has been said about the contribution Prince has had to this team in terms of statistical analysis. I feel Prince was mishandled all season myself. I felt maybe they were going to take their time but with everyone and anyone getting better chances than him to perform I can't say those chances ever come. I put it in my pile of things I didn't like about Cameron but I can't say I know everything behind those decisions. I just hope that if he's traded or not resigned he doesn't become a much better player elsewhere which highlights the failure of this team to recognize that.

Not a money anchor, just dead weight. Can't stand him

So...Yost says we're looking at a 4th and 5th round pick for prince and wiercioch? What a terrible return that would be, I hope he knows not what he talks about

He should know better. Nobody makes trades anymore.
