Although if it's the same arbitrator then Hoffman is probably not getting more than $3M. And, honestly, I'm OK with that. One year, prove that wasn't a fluke (which it was, to a certain extent).

There's no chance Hoffman gets awarded so much that Ottawa walks away. He'll likely get between $3M and $4M if it gets to arbitration, which hopefully itt won't.

At that price it might be worth it to keep him around but being signed to that 1.2 mil deal will also make it easy to move him. IMO that's a player that clearly hasn't gotten it yet because of this arb case... he doesn't believe he is only what he's proven to this point and that's a border line NHLer fighting for time on the 4th line.
To me, you try and get a 2nd or 3rd for him and just move on. The Sens clearly don't view him with any real value, Chaisson thinks he's better than he is, and there are better players being developed by the organization that deserves a shot.
I look at a guy like Robinson, is he really that much of a worse option than Chaisson? Probably not. He was also signed and developed by the organization to this point and like we saw last year, they players that were drafted and signed as prospects by the Sens were the ones that carried the team. Karlsson, Stone, Hammond... Turris also did and he was very much developed by the Sens as well.
Just move Chaisson, the prize from the Spezza deal is Paul and you hope Gagne develops and works out as that 2nd rounder. Chaisson and Guptil aren't going to change the look of the team, just move on from them.
