You sure about that? Benoit got a 1-way and he was older and didn't win the Eddie Shore.

He'll stay in Ottawa. No better option on the 3rd pairing on the right.

Anyhow, $400K guaranteed is not that far from the NHL minimum, and knowing their lack of depth on the left-side he figures he will get as good a chance here as anywhere. Chance to show off and earn a bigger contract for next season.

Playing in Buffalo could have been a tough year for a rookie D-man.

Benoit had NHL experience and was proven. The Eddie shore award is pretty irrelevant in terms of getting a one way or not.

Again, nobody was giving him a one way. This proves it.

Sure but other teams might have presented more of a chance for him to the some NHL games. In Ottawa, he'll have to wait his turn like (almost) everybody else.

I hope we can see him for an extended period with boro.

Not really. The third pairing spot is basically his.

Not even close to the same situation. Benoit never got a 1 way contract without playing a single NHL game.

Well-deserved.

Not at all. They've started several times they like cowen.

Yeah. Cowen and Wideman will be the third pairing. They won't put Cowen on the right side.

Where's boro in this?

The way it stands, Boro is clearly on the outside looking in at least to start the season, which is fine. There probably will be another body being moved out.

We'll see. Sitting boro isn't a great idea imo.

My best guess:

- Wideman gets a two year contract. First year two-way, second year one-way
- He starts the season in Bingo until there is an injury and/or they decide to put Phillips on LTIR
- Once Phillips is out of the way he will be our 7th dman. If he shows that he can contribute offensively and on the PP, they may look to move Wiercioch while he has some value.

I think it is all contingent on whether Phillips retires or is put on LTIR. Guy can't play anymore but I wouldn't leave $2.5M on the table and neither would any of us. Wideman could be used against teams like DET that aren't all about sending goons out. If Cowen plays up to his potential as a big, hard hitting d-man it makes Boro completely expendable.

And why?

Players get injured, sit, healthy scratched. That's 90% of bottom pairing defensemen in the NHL.

I thought that after I said that. I'd bet on boro not sitting often though, but cowen is a walking wounded so it'll probably work out.

That would mean we're carrying 8 dmen though azvof right now. Possibly the high ahl salary was by design to disuade teams in claiming him if waived.
