Ryan was not "their own", they went out and traded for him and salary in was a log more than salary out. True, that was after Alfie was gone but Ryan's salary at the time was more than they wanted to pay Alfie and more than he eventually received from the Wings.

In addition to Ryan, we also (recently) brought in MacArthur and Legwand, and we were going hard after Clarkson as well.

It's true that the Sens don't sign a lot a UFAs but given that they are the 4th most often mentioned city in limited-trade lists is that any wonder?

There have been trades out there to improve the club but the same refrain is reported every time, money in money out.

That's because they are very likely not making the post-season and if they do, are not very likely to get pas the first round. In other words, this is not the time to spend.

Well known fact that the Ryan deal was well in the works before things went south with Alfie.

Who, though? I believe Stone and Hoffman have earned the right to be in the top six so our top six are done. Any move to improve the top six would mean one of the current top-six moving out.

If that happens it will likely mean two players out (e.g. Cowen+Turris+picks for a true #1LC, or Cowen+MacArthur+Anderson+picks for a Hall type. But if you add up the salaries, guess what, it'll still be money in/money out.

We are not really in a position where we have glaring holes that need to be fixed; we have some soft areas where we could upgrade.
