7 years at 5.5 million a year? Geez, that could backfire in a big way.

Price is fine, it's the term that could be an issue. Boychuk should get a little more. I guess Griffin Reinhardt will be on the block at some point soon.SpezDispensed wrote:7 years at 5.5 million a year? Geez, that could backfire in a big way.

Wow, for a guy that had a great year and had his struggles before that. I guess it's the isles and they are gonna have to overpay to keep players.SpezDispensed wrote:7 years at 5.5 million a year? Geez, that could backfire in a big way.

Only the people that thought "DSP" was some kind of big deal. Not a huge upgrade on our very own Erik Condra.

I hope they can retain boychuck because I don't want him to go to Edmonton.

NEELY wrote:Love the trade for Montreal. DSP is exactly the type of winger they need and is capable of putting up 20, no problem. Lots of potential to grow there and he's a can't miss NHL winger. Will never be a 1st line talent but he's capable of playing there.
DSP also plays physical (or at least has in the few Anaheim games I have seen him play), and that is something that is sorely missing from the habs. Adding a skill player for Anaheim, where physical play is not in short supply, is solid as well. Great trade for both teams IMO.SeawaySensFan wrote:Oglethorpe wrote:You are kidding right ?SeawaySensFan wrote:Flo The Action wrote:Wasnt it this off season that people were saying DSP wouldn't ever get traded? DSP is younger so points for that. Otherwise, about the same production and contribute about the same overall to a team albeit in different ways. So yeah, an upgrade, but not a huge one.

Condra is a good, not great penalty killer, who is a 4th liner and has maxed out his potential. He is very replaceable on a team that is missing the playoffs this year and likely next year as well.

If you trade a player that you don't really need and it returns a player that adds more to your team it doesn't matter who is the better player.
And if you say "they could have gotten more" well guess what if they didn't get more it's probably because nobody offered more.
SpezDispensed wrote:It's not budget with Condra, come on. If anything he'll get less money than he's getting now if he wants to be here. 1.5 tops, sign or then we'll trade you.
Besides, when was the last time Uncle Eugene didn't 'pony' up for one of our pending UFAs?

Condra is a 28 year old UFA and this is likely his prime, so why not develop someone who can already do the same job with a higher potential to contribute more at a cheaper cost?
I like Condra but his being on the team is stunting the development of a few guys in the minors who could very well be better than him. IMO, you trade Condra and you move/buy-out Legwand in the off-season. Derek Grant is an RFA, will be 25 next year, and he's a left-handed center. You just replaced Legwand and Condra with one player, saved yourself roughly $3M annually (which we'll need to re-sign Hoff, Zib, Stone) and opened up a roster spot for another player. If they could they would move both Neil and Phillips but it's awful PR and won't. Trading Condra is a much easier option.
Hoffman-Zib-Ryan
MacArthur-Turris-Stone
Michalek-Pageau-Prince
Puempel-Grant-Chiasson
Neil
If Neil or Chiasson get traded you carry Robinson as the extra forward. If Pageau gets traded you always have Da Costa as a potential option.
