It's a bit of a process. Tim Murray keeps turning down our offers even though Bryan Murray keep bumping up the offer a bit afterwards. I think what gets it done will be both 2nds and "Sugar" Shane Prince.

stay tuned

That would be a turrible deal. Anyways, Stewart will be going to a contender.

Yeah Boston is apparently the leading suitor.

Stewart is worth no more than a 3rd at this point. Probably the asking price which Ottawa doesn't have. Anything more is highway robbery for a UFA with 21 points and a staggering -30

If Stewart is worth a 3rd then it's gonna be comical to see what Neil gets

Serious question: would you rather have a lazy slug like Stewart on a long playoff run, or Chris Neil?

Serious answer: Chris Stewart without question. Plus, he's a UFA so you're not tied to him next year. He's better in every facet of the game even if he's not the greatest. He can score goals for you. Chris Neil can't.

Every facet of the game except getting dirty, hitting, checking, effort. But yeah, I guess if you want a guy who might show up some of the time, then Stewart's the guy.

Stewart can do all those things better than Neil... that's not the question. The will to do them night after night is.

Neil:

a) More responsible game
b) Signed next year ($1.5M salary)
c) Plays with his heart

Stewart may be more talented but he doesn't have the intangibles Neil brings.

Some of you guys are truly delusional when it comes to Chris Neil. His effort and heart are of no good if he can't actually keep up with the play.

His demise is greatly exaggerated. Put him in the playoffs and watch him fly.

Laugh1 Couldn't disagree more. First, before the fight, he'd need to be healthy scratched to get 'motivated', then Neil would feed him.

Neil leaving will be like Spezza leaving. We'll think we're better until there is a gaping hole in the team that no roster player can fill. See: Power Play and Faceoff Wins.

Neil can turn around a game with a hit, or a real heart and soul shift. No one on the Sens plays with anywhere close to that passion or desire to win. Ya, I think A B-Sen in his place will be better in the long-run but we'll miss Neil and we shouldn't downplay his contributions just because they're not goals and assists.

You don't realize how much bigger and stronger a guy like Stewart is but ok. This isn't the Chris Neil from 5 years ago. He probably has more PIM than ice time in the last month. You don't need a guy like him any more.

I'll miss the Neil from 5 years ago. Nobody is going to miss the Neil of recent times. He doesn't bring anything tangible to the team any longer. Fights are much rarer and these big hits you speak of have not happened for quite some time.

Love Neil as a player and person but he is of no use going forward for us.

Fact is, there's nothing left for Neil to do in Ottawa. He's not the leader or the player this team needs right now. That said, in the playoffs a guy like Chris Neil can turn a series around with a fight, hit, or even a flukey, garbage goal. Not sure Stewart can have the same impact.

Phillips, IMO, brings nothing to the table aside from a depth d-man that needs insulation. Chances are Phillips retires a Sen or gets traded next year since there will be very few takers.

Interesting thing that I noticed about Neil is that he's drawn the first power play for Ottawa in at least 3 of the last 4 games, that I noticed anyway. If this team had a decent PP that would be pretty important.

http://www.ottawasun.com/2015/02/06/sens-winger-bobby-ryan-will-always-defend-his-captain

"I'm not a guy that's going to fight ... I may have one a year," Ryan said following Friday's practice. "But there's just opportunities where things need to be addressed. I thought that needed to be addressed."

Both Karlsson and Ovechkin dismissed the unpenalized hit as no big deal after the game -- Ovechkin made a joke about Karlsson going down easily because he's "140 pounds" -- but at the time of the incident it appeared a full scale brawl could break out. It ended when Ryan charged at Ovechkin and took a swing that missed, and Ovechkin put him in a headlock and threw him to the ice.

"Whether he outmuscled (Karlsson) or not, I don't care, he's in a vulnerable position, and you don't get your stick parallel to the ice in a guy. You just don't do it," said Ryan. "That's arguably the best defenceman in the world. And our captain. If he takes a hit like that, I'm always coming in."

Ovechkin was in a surly mood from the first shift, when Clarke MacArthur took him into the boards.

"A basic pin-against-the-wall, from a guy that is 140 pounds," said Ryan. "It sounded a little hypocritical to me."

Ryan appeared to get under Ovechkin's skin as the two exchanged words in the penalty box.

"I said a few things, yeah, because I thought he deserved them all," said Ryan, who refused to share the conversation. "I'm not taking the fine or the suspension on that one. Ask (P.A. announcer) Stuntman Stu. He had his head down and buried, trying not to laugh, I think."

Laugh1 Love this guy.
