Again, I'm not slamming Hoffman.  He's having a terrific season.  If he follows that up with another similar performance I'll stand and applaud.  But no matter how you slice it, the very fact that a 25-year-old AHL call up is leading the team in goals is troubling.

P.S. Gretzky leads every category -- goals, assists, points.  Likely leads primary assists and secondary assists.  I don't know if you were around when he was in his prime -- I was.  That year it's like he took it upon himself to prove that he could score goals if he wanted to, so he scored 92. Sure, it was a different league (a rookie scoring 76???!) but it was still quite an accomplishment.  And he led the league by a wide margin in goals *and* points.  If you look at his lifetime totals he's got more than twice as many assists as goals (894 to 1963).  But that year he scored 92 goals he (only) had 120 assists.  Compare that to a Brett Hull who scored 741 goals and added 650 assists.  Do you see the difference now?

First, if Hoffman had 35 goals right now, would that still be troubling? Do you think that the Blues are looking to trade Tarasenko because it's so troubling that a rookie is leading the team in scoring? Your argument is weightless.

Second, no, I don't see the difference if by "difference" you want me to agree that the all-time leading goal scorer in the NHL isn't a goal scorer. I don't care if he also raises chickens on the ice. If he scores 894 goals, he's a goal scorer. I also think your post is pretty condescending, but that's a different argument.

Do you really only consider someone a goal scorer if they score more goals than assists (and aren't rookies)?

The Jets must have hated that first season from Teemu. That actually might be one of the only times anyone was a legit goal scorer in the league.

Facepalm

35 is not 16. If Hoffman had 20 to lead the team but we had two-three other guys in the high teens then I'd say, "Whoa, didn't expect that but I'd take it." Thing is that Hoffman, while having a great year for a rookie (even if he *is* 25), we needed those numbers (if not better) from our top players -- Turris, MacArthur, Ryan, Michalek.

Again, 16 just past the mid-point is fantastic for a rookie, but it's troubling that he's not at least being chased by the ones we *expected* to lead.

Also, Tarasenko is not a 25-year-old AHL callup. He's a high draft pick and somewhat expected to contribute. Don't forget that Hoffman was waived last year and anyone could have gotten him for free. Even after camp I don't think it was better than 50/50 that he would stay up here for good.

Greg Anderson not a practice:

L'entraînement des #Sens débute dans une quinzaine. Robin Lehner et Andrew Hammond sont déjà sur la glace. Aucun signe de Craig Anderson.

I don't want to quote a huge post but turris needs a 2c to insulate him if you want him to produce. Zibanejad has looked decent lately, but not what we all thought.

The Gregger told to have a sore hand perhaps?

I don't think too many here were expecting him to do more than what he's done. It was Bryan Murray who came out and said he was going to be the 1LC, but Turris would perform in that role if Zibanejad wasn't there right away.

Actually, that was - in retrospect - a very odd thing to say. Perhaps he wanted Zibanejad to push Turris but I think what's happened is that it made Turris lose some confidence, and perhaps made Zibanejad lose some of that drive.

Turris was coming off a season where he had his best numbers offensively *and* defensively (when you take his +/- relative to others on the team). He became the de-facto top-line center and did a pretty decent jobs. Just had to work on his face offs. Meanwhile, Zibanejad got sent down to the minors and when he came back up he didn't exactly light things up. Then in the off-season Murray anoints Zibanejad as the future 1LC. Mistake or miscalculation but, either way, the wrong thing to say.

He was given a choice. Either have a sore hand or be given a sore hand.

The Philler and Borrowicky are paired together at today's practice. I would guess they're out for tomorrow's match. Chiasson is absent, probably due to his collision with the end boards last night.

What he needs is a 1C. Not saying he isn't capable of playing like a 1C but he basically plays to the level of the other top line C ie. plays with a 2C, plays like a 2C; plays with a 1C plays like a 1C.

Anderson is actually on the IR effective yesterday (TSN). He won't be playing the next 2 games, at least.

Kyle Turdis is a really good 2nd line centre most of the time. Lately he hasn't been that either. I think he needs to bulk up a lot and really figure out how to get better at faceoffs...at least if he'd be good on the draw, he wouldn't be useless if he's not producing points.

He can play Saturday. They backdated his IR status to Jan 21.

This is what I assumed but I couldn't find confirmation anywhere. I will add a "like" on the twitternet for you. Whatever that is.
