you're right... how many players ever have better years then their first year in the NHL. it's all downhill from here.

you got to let go of the devil's advocacy sometimes. at this point it's very probable that hoffman will be able to be this productive going forward. sure other teams will notice but he'll also get better and used to the NHL.

I'd love to see Jagr on that line for the rest of the year. I bet the guy has at least one more year in him after. He'd tear it up with those two while letting Stone develop with Lazar and (insert LW).

Yes please. Jagr is a tank with skill.

I think the fear with Hoffman is that he gets destroyed one day and is never the same. Otherwise, as long as he keeps up the work ethic, I'd say 25 a year is well within reach. Clearly he has the skill.

Not trying to be Devils advocate. 30 goals is a tough thing to ask of any player in the league these days. Even Bobby ryan hasn't done that in a long time.

I'd be down for that. Jagr is a legend.

Nevertheless, Dorion just said "there's a chance" they will bring a defenseman up from Bingo for the weekend, and that decision would be made this afternoon.

Yeah, I think we have a back-to-back, including a dreaded afternoon game vs the Bs on Saturday. So it's a good opportunity to get Claesson or Wideman a game or two.

Borowiecki is out for a while; he's not suiting up this Saturday. Do you really want Methot coming in cold against the Bruins? And Wiercioch was slashed on the finger at the morning skate and looked to be in some pain.

They may have no choice but to bring someone up *and* play Phillips.

Whoa. Methot apparently is discussing a conditioning stint in Bingo.

Methot is talking about a conditioning stint in Bingo. Maybe he's finally realized his only chance of a contract for next year is if he plays this year.

He has seen the light.

It also pretty much means neither he nor Boro are playing this weekend. If Wier's finger is too sore to grip a puck they'll have to call up Claesson.

Even if Wideman could switch to the left side you want someone like Claesson against the Bruins.

I dunno who gets called up at this point. I assume Wiercioch will be fine, so technically we have enough LD and RD to continue without a callup.

Apparently BoroCop will be in a "boot" for a week...I'm guessing so he doesn't tear the stitches out. He received "48 stitches in 3 layers"...Diddle that sounds unpleasant. No idea how you get layers of stitches, and I don't want to know either.

That sounds like a nasty gash. I assume three layers of stitches means it was very deep (had to sew-up the muscle as well as the skin). He's lucky no major arteries/veins were slashed. But even muscle tissue damage, when it's that deep, can lead to a long rehab. He may only be in a boot for a week but he may not be on skates for a while after that. I can easily see this being a month or longer.

Seriously what is the fascination on here with players who are slow. Do you not watch western conference hockey. Speed kills in the league now. The game gets faster every year, watch the juniors today, all that speed is coming into the league. speed is more important than size now. Obviously big and fast is ideal, but there is a reason that guys like Hoffman can thrive today, Martin St louis used to be an exception, but you are going to see a bunch of guys his size coming into the league in the next couple of years.

Jagr is slow but can hold on to the puck like nobody else can. He would be a beast on the pp.

I see Oggie's point, though.  With tighter calling on obstruction/holding/hooking and high hits targeted for extinction, there's likely to be more room for smaller/faster players.

It would be interesting to see if this also affects larger defensemen (with more smaller players, very tall defensemen will be at a disadvantage w.r.t. trying to deliver punishing hits.
