Jason Spezza - Trade Discussion

if we can't sign stastny then our best bet is that colorado resigns him. because essentially you'd like spezza traded by the draft. which in my eyes is no certainty. i could very well foresee a situation where jason isn't traded until well after july 1st.

Not necessarily. Any signing that takes an interested team out of the picture has the potential to drive the price down, as there is less competition to beat the other guy's offer.

There'll still be quite a few teams in on Spezza though - and suddenly Anaheim's competition has gotten stronger and they haven't.  Panic can ensue!   

This is true. I guess it all depends on his list and how strong the interest is in trading for him.

Colorado is not going to resign Stastny.  They can't commit the term.

Maybe J-Spezz is shipped to the Avs for a package that includes Stastny's rights (assuming we get permission to negotiate a contract beforehand).

So that's 50 million for Stastny, 50 million for Ryan, 16-17 for Methot, 20 million for MacArthur and let's say 6 million for bridge deals for Zibanejad and Ryan = ~140 million in contracts signed this summer? Sources say...doubtful?

Or they don't ice a team... it's either or.  Wonder if the league will let Melnyk get away with having a cap of 1 mil? 

The Sens need to spend to get to the floor and need to spend to get to 58 mil, not sure what is hard to understand about this.

Unfortunately they can get to the cap without Statsny's money on the books.

it would take ROR to get spezza from colorado. unfortunetly if they part with stastny they won't part with ROR. i doubt there's much else they'd be able to give up that we'd want. they're keeping all their young players that we'd want.

I get Nashville & Anaheim and St Louis.. but why would Colorado want Spezza? With their good young team.. I can't see a need for him there. They have a learning curve with their team.. but they are young and will continue to be in the mix for the playoffs for a long time. They are now built to last..

ROR's and Stastny's rights would definitely be a start (ROR is RFA, right?).

As I said, if they feel they have a need for another center, they think about it. ROR is RFA and they've had difficulty getting him signed in the past. If he had term, I'd agree with you, but it's a different story if he's RFA and they can't agree on money.

Hate to bust your bubble.. but Stastny is not coming to Ottawa. If you think Ottawa can outbid other teams that will definitely be in the running for him.. then you are missing the point of the f'in budget. He made 6.6M last season and will most likely want a raise. He would also want to go to a team that is a contender or on the rise. Ottawa is neither of these... they are re-building. He may just stay in Colorado..
