Man people are challenged saying we're losing one of the league's dynamic first lines if all three of Spezza-Milo-Hemsky leave. Are you serious?

Holy cow. That's just incredible that someone would think about that and say it out loud. I like what Hemsky brought to be honest and I think he's someone who could help us win next year and beyond. Michalek is a guy that turned his game around about the halfway mark, but you take a chance with his knees and Spezza is Spezza. You either see him for what he is now, or you don't, but as someone who likes to think watches a lot of hockey, I see it plain as day that he's easy to play against.

Yet people continue to cry and moan about losing him. Why? Don't you watch Kyle Turris, MacArthur and Ryan? Don't you get it!!?!??!? So frustrating.  PullHair

i would like me some stastny but i doubt it happens. don't see Melnyk digging deep into his pockets and handing 7 mill per season to him. and i beleave if he hits the FA market that is what he will get.

Melnyk will totally pay for Stastny because 1. He needs to get to the cap somehow when Spezza's $7M will be taken out and 2. He needs to get the fans back on his bandwagon.

he'll have to spend but past the RFA and whatever comes back from the the spezza trade who knows if heèll have to spend that much. also who knows if weèll need a center. might be one coming back in a trade. might have dacosta step up.
I just wouldn't put any money on that bet.

listening to Dorion he seemed to be talking more about re-uping the players he had on board already. i'll be very happy if july 1st can bring us back a long contract for bobby ryan. dan boyle would be sweet as well.

Everything (UFA signings) hinges on that Spezza trade and the return we get for him.

This is something that will be tough... a team like St.Louis may think they have a shot at Stastny and will want to commit long term to him, does that affect what Spezza will go for?

It ups the price for Anaheim et. al because there's one less piece out there.

They need to make some decisions on some RFA(notably Lehner) and depending on who they get back for Spezza will decide how much they have left to hit the supposed $57M budget for this year.

And I'd imagine resigning Ryan would be a priority over UFAs.

Not necessarily. Any signing that takes an interested team out of the picture has the potential to drive the price down, as there is less competition to beat the other guy's offer.

There'll still be quite a few teams in on Spezza though - and suddenly Anaheim's competition has gotten stronger and they haven't. Panic can ensue!  Ahhhhh!

if we can't sign stastny then our best bet is that colorado resigns him. because essentially you'd like spezza traded by the draft. which in my eyes is no certainty. i could very well foresee a situation where jason isn't traded until well after july 1st.

This is true. I guess it all depends on his list and how strong the interest is in trading for him.

Colorado is not going to resign Stastny.  They can't commit the term.
