Kid appears to be literally everything you want in a player.

i really look forward to seeing him play with the sens next year. i'm not sure what to expect, you kind of expect there's a learning curve with him but it will be interesting to see the intensity he'll bring to the team. worth tunning into.

Can't stand Spezza but that is a fairly bush league headline in the Sun today.

To Flo, the Mike Richards option as a guy the Sens would be taking back might very well come true at this btw.  All the ice off crap aside he's going to be on the move after this playoff exit.  He might not even be the worst guy to come in and help the young kids along considering the type of game they want to play.

Wonder if this would ever get done.

NBC analyst Pierre McGuire told TSN 1200 during his morning radio hit last week those who don’t like Spezza better be careful what they wish for.

“I believe that Jason Spezza is a lot better player than a lot of fans in Ottawa give him credit for,” said McGuire, a former NHL coach and executive.

“Everybody says, ‘Trade Spezza, Trade Spezza.’ Okay, for who? Tell me who you are going to get that is going to be a better point-producer than him. Who are you going to get? I talk to so many coaches around the league, ‘They say, ‘Really, they want to trade Jason Spezza? We’ll take him.’”

This also might be a reason why McGuire doesn't have a job in the NHL.  Points are not the issue in Ottawa, they can score by comity because of the depth they have, the cap space (budget or not they will spend), and the depth within the system.  If that many teams want Spezza like McGuire is claiming then the return should be huge considering he can go to 19 of the 29 teams in the NHL.  We'll see what happens.

Getting Mike Richards in a separate deal could even happen if the Sens really want that player.

I brought up the off ice issues but it makes sense from a purely hockey perspective.  I have no idea how far gone he is off the ice or if it's just a matter of playing under Sutter.  If the Sens are trying to build a team like the Bruins, Blues, Jackets, then that's a player that makes sense.

I think it's a great trade but don't think they'll want to for Richards given the makeup of the team and the internal cap. I was thinking more along the lines of:

To LA: Spezza, Greening, Gryba
To Ott: Clifford, Toffoli, Voynov, 1st rd pick

After, trade for Chris Stewart (Methot, Prince) and either go hard after Stastny or trade for someone like Evander Kane or Jordan Eberle. I'd imagine Cowen and Condra are on the block too if the right trade is made.

LA would not do that unfortunately.

Sidenote but I'm a bit disgusted with the way Spezza's getting talked about publicly by the papers and the team. He's the captain, for God's sake. If you're going to deal him, do it in private. This just lowers his trade value and embarrasses him.

We can criticize his on-ice play but I don't think he deserves this.

The Spezza talk certainly has hit an all-time high... with everyone and their mother making it clear that "He's for sale" and what not. Madness. Reminds me of when it came out that St. Louis asked for a trade. Not sure if Spezza has asked for a trade again this time... a feeding frenzy in the media for sure.

Wow just saw the ottawa sun headline. BUSH Cussing LEAGUE. What's worse is those pathetic losers brennan/garrioch go out on twitter mocking all the fans in uproar over this. Diddle I hate those guys, repulsed by them actually.

I said as much above.  I can't stand the way he plays the game most of the time, I think they should trade him, I think the Sens will be better without him.  What the Sun put out today is below the belt to say the least.
