The Spezza talk certainly has hit an all-time high... with everyone and their mother making it clear that "He's for sale" and what not. Madness. Reminds me of when it came out that St. Louis asked for a trade. Not sure if Spezza has asked for a trade again this time... a feeding frenzy in the media for sure.

Wow just saw the ottawa sun headline. BUSH Cussing LEAGUE. What's worse is those pathetic losers brennan/garrioch go out on twitter mocking all the fans in uproar over this. Diddle I hate those guys, repulsed by them actually.

We can criticize his on-ice play but I don't think he deserves this.

I said as much above.  I can't stand the way he plays the game most of the time, I think they should trade him, I think the Sens will be better without him.  What the Sun put out today is below the belt to say the least.

Wonder if this would ever get done.

Greening & Spezza for

Richards, Clifford, Toffoli, and a 1st.

How hard would the Sens be after that?

I think it's a great trade but don't think they'll want to for Richards given the makeup of the team and the internal cap. I was thinking more along the lines of:

To LA: Spezza, Greening, Gryba
To Ott: Clifford, Toffoli, Voynov, 1st rd pick

After, trade for Chris Stewart (Methot, Prince) and either go hard after Stastny or trade for someone like Evander Kane or Jordan Eberle. I'd imagine Cowen and Condra are on the block too if the right trade is made.

No way are they giving away Voynov, he's a solid D man and will be a piece of that blueline for a long time.  If the Kings get Spezza they are going to want salary going back and that is Richards IMO.  Throwing Gryba in there isn't much of anything to be honest.  I think what I posted is pretty close to equal value.

It doesn't lower his value. Nhl teams don't care about what happens in the media.

As for Richards I'd be on board. La is terrible for offence, he'd be back tot he Philly Richards here.

Yah I don't think it lowers his value at all, his value is what it is.  St.Louis was going to one team and he returned a kings ransom for sure but what they are now doing to Spezza in the media is not necessary.

What is the headline? All I see (online) is "Is it time to trade Spezza?", and Garrioch's subtitle goes "He may be an easy target, but he’s definitely not easy to replace" -- I don't feel like reading Garrioch, but from that it doesn't sound bad.

I'm not familiar with Cifford, care to expand? As far as Toffoli goes yeah! that's a guy i want back for sure. I lost touch with what Richanrds was doing after they won the cup so i'm not up to date but i thought he was a hard guy tom play against. I thought he would fit well centering our 2nd or 3rd line. alternating with Zib i guess. i mean, who knows about the off ice issues. maybe they're still there maybe not. one thing i know is that Ottawa is far from being LA in terms of a party city. at his age he may be winding down on that aspect. he's approaching 30. some guys clear things a little at that age. it's a bit of a gamble but hey, with toffoli and and 1st it's not like it has to be that bad. would rather have next years 1st though... not that i imagine it will be a high one but at least it sounds like a deeper draft.

NEELY wrote:This also might be a reason why McGuire doesn't have a job in the NHL.  Points are not the issue in Ottawa, they can score by comity because of the depth they have, the cap space (budget or not they will spend), and the depth within the system.  If that many teams want Spezza like McGuire is claiming then the return should be huge considering he can go to 19 of the 29 teams in the NHL.  We'll see what happens.

Getting Mike Richards in a separate deal could even happen if the Sens really want that player.

MCguire is a bit of a tool. the guy will suck up to every and each player. I don't think he's talked to any coaches about spezza, probably just trying to suck up in a big way. what a schmuck.

Clifford... younger Neil IMO, something like that.  Guy would fit in perfectly on the 4th line IF they decide to move Greening.

ya, i still see greening as someone we could use. he had a terrible year, but IF we're going to make the playoffs, he's a guy that could help us along the way. depending what the make-up of the team is next year, i'd like to see him on a line with Lazar possibly.

We'll see, there is major work to be done in Ottawa to support the new core.

I doubt you get Richards + Toffoli + 1st for Spezza and Greening, let alone Clifford as well.

That's a lot though, especially when your centerpiece is Mike Richards and you're also getting an elite level prospect + a 1st + a really solid 4th liner. If you could swing that deal, you do it yesterday. Richards is way more of a 65-75 point player than he is a 45-55 point player - like he's been in LA, I just seriously doubt you can get those pieces for him.
