Still a solid prospect and he's a big lad.  Big, skilled, and a little bit of a mean streak so that's exactly what a Murray type player would look like.

He'd fit in best in a non traditional market where few of the fans know what backchecking means.

Phoenix would be nice, Hanzal or Boedker etc.  We'd never get OEL in a million years, shame since he and EK looked so good in Sochi.

You might be able to get Hanzal, a prospect, and a pick for Spezza.  Don't think Hanzal/Boedker, Samuelsson, and a 1st is that far off to be honest.

I'd Dung myself if we got Hanzal.  Not happening I don't think.
that is one big C yes, and wouldn't be a bad component of a deal. but i'd prefer if we could get some scoring in a deal. not familiar with samuelsson. wonder if there would be any way to get Domi out of them.

Domi?  No chance.

We need a bidding war, pretty simple. Any desperate GM can do stupid things when there's 10 other teams trying to acquire the guy.

That and some disappointing first round exits.

Vermette? You get back a centre who can play wing. He's fast.. He's a good checker and can kill penalties...

Vermette is not the center Ottawa needs. Nice player, not the guy you go for in a trade for Jason Spezza.

Not one for one for sure... but could be part of the package.. and he is a 200 ft player... along with a good defenseman...

You are looking for a missing piece and Ottawa has a bunch of 2nd/3rd line centers in the making that will fill that exact role. Hanzal is a special type of player the way he plays the game, there are not a lot of those types of centers available.

There are a lot of good fits for Spezza at this point.

ya, most importantly pheonix could use a name player. someone that can come in and put up points, and might draw some free agents. they might have a shot a getting hemsky if they trade for spezza by the draft.
there's a history between management. makes sense.
there's quite a few places that make sense also so it will be interesting where he goes.

St.Louis with Rundblad and Bishop
Colorado with Anderson (was apparently talking to Murray about Spezza too)
Phoenix with Turris
Columbus with Methot, Filatov, Leclaire (maybe less likely now)

The last thing Ottawa needs is a small, skilled center who will take on 3rd line role. Da Costa, Pageau, to a much lesser extent Lazar. Ottawa is filled with Vermette types.

I'm not advocating a trade for vermette. no no... Hanzal way over vermette.
i get the feeling that they'd be more interested to trade us yandle as opposed to hanzal though. unfortunately he's not a righty.

Pierre Mcguire seems to think that if the penguins are ousted in the first round, the pens might entertain trading Malkin.....

It's going to be a long wait until the draft, that's for sure. I know for a fact the Sens are going to throw a ton of cash and term at Stastny though if they get a chance to.

Yah, we'll see about that. Probably a move that should have happened a couple years back but if that is the case you watch what Vancouver offers for Malkin.

That's a hell of an expensive 4th line.  As much as I like Greening, you can't pay a 4th liner $2.6M.   Didn't Murray mention that at the deadline the player asked for the most by other GMs was Greening?  If not for the cap floor, I think Greening would be on the move.  Heck, even *with* the floor issue, we need a player like Greening to play in the top six.  And if it's not Greening then they have to move him and get someone who can play that role on the 2nd line.

I don't even know what to say about Smith any more.  He's not done as much as he needs to the last couple of years.  Still a good player but I don't think he's progressed from 2 years ago.

Why the hell not? Should they also renegotiate Hoff and Stone's contracts because they're being underpaid to play on the 3rd line? You're being silly.

Are you seriously comparing 2-way ELCs to Greening's contract? Who's being silly now?

Other 3?  No idea.  Either way this is a complete no brainer.

No way do they trade within the Division, so no need to put those teams on the list.

Toronto?

Anyone read how the Elmira Jackals have dropped their affiliation with the Sens in favor of the Sabres? That back-stabbing nephew. #HouseMurray
