Oh boy...19 teams that can have Spezza for the right price. Look the Diddle out.

"The Senators will not be a cap team next year and the club will continue with an internal budget with $56-to-$57 million range. The club will continue to put money into drafting an developing to have success."
which also means with a lack of picks this year you can scout all you want, you're not drafting much.
Cussing Melnyk. no Dan Boyle that's for sure.
The only team in the entire NHL that doesn't have a media meal. Just shows how cheap they are when you add that to all the budget talk.

$56-$57M is what the floor will be next year.

They will need to know whether or not to go out and sign a UFA that can help fill the offensive void, again I look at Stastny as the ideal player to come in and do that. Ottawa has a great opportunity to add a good player or two this off season with the trade of Spezza, maybe Methot, and UFA.
MacArthur/Turris/Ryan
Berglund/Stastny/Stewart
Hoffman/Zibanejad/Stone
Greening/Smith/Neil
Condra/Da Costa
If Hoffman is traded I might be tempted to put Peumpel in there but he could use another year. I think Condra also might be a guy that's moved for air.
Looking at that I don't see how that wouldn't be a better group of forwards than they had on Sunday.
That's a hell of an expensive 4th line. As much as I like Greening, you can't pay a 4th liner $2.6M. Didn't Murray mention that at the deadline the player asked for the most by other GMs was Greening? If not for the cap floor, I think Greening would be on the move. Heck, even *with* the floor issue, we need a player like Greening to play in the top six. And if it's not Greening then they have to move him and get someone who can play that role on the 2nd line.
I don't even know what to say about Smith any more. He's not done as much as he needs to the last couple of years. Still a good player but I don't think he's progressed from 2 years ago.

Other 3? No idea. Either way this is a complete no brainer.

MacArthur - Turris - Stone
Stewart - Zibanejad - Ryan
Michalek - Berglund - Lazar
Greening - Smith - Neil
Condra
That's a forward core I could live with.

Apparently... rumours only... the asking price for Stewart by Tim Murray was Lazar. Now Tim will try to rob the Sens blind of their good prospects to get Stewart.. and since I can't get on capgeek today for some reason... is Stewart a UFA in the next year or two?
