Alfie?

Way more to it than money and had more to do with respect.  Melnyk is a moron, no one is questioning that but he's right when he says "any idiot can spend to the cap".  More of a shot at the Leafs IMO anyways.

Pretty sure that disrespect was directly linked to the amount of money they offered him.

Dangerous time if you want Spezza gone.  I can see him staying, along with Hemsky, with MacLean still as coach.

Your usernames are cursed man, Spezza's gone  Laugh1
LOL! Now that is funny. Forgot about Heater504 or whatever it was...

It was 50(goals) 4 (for) Heater. Get it right!  Sarcasm

As I said, I don't care about usernames or anything like that, I just want to win.

We lost a core player due to budget.  If they actually offered him the blank cheque like they said there'd be no problem.

Instead they tried to corner him to accept a number within their stinking budget thinking he'd be loyal as always.

If that's how they handled negotiations with the greatest player to ever wear the jersey I don't feel so good about a great player who's only been here one year(Ryan).

Alfredsson deserved what happened to him. Simple as that. Old player, always hurt, terrible year for him.

Money was part of the issue but hardly the main cause.  Why would Alfie sign with the Sens if the ton was "yah, w/e, we'll pay you want you want you selfish SOB, you're not worth it but we'll pay you".  I would say screw you too.

And this is where the other side of the argument becomes completely ignorant as well.

Meh. Whatever Melnyk says today, take with a grain of salt. He'll just spit out crap and make noise cuz he's loves his noise. The comment regarding PMac is interesting. We'll see if that really holds true, although I suspect it will. That may suggest Spezza is gone... who knows. I would not be surprised if Spezza stuck around as well. Really hard to read the direction they're going in. Need some moves to happen.

Maybe he did, he played hardball in a business where that doesn't always work, but it sure looks like it hurt both of us. He had a pretty average year, he got limited icetime down the stretch and we looked lost without him. Weird scenario.

What's ignorant? It's a business. As Melnyk said, spend smart. Alfredsson getting $5.5 wasn't smart.

They're probably set on trading Spezza but will never admit it until they see what kind of offer they receive from the other teams.

They seem to have a conflicting approach and philosophy on the game for sure.  Has Murray ever won a Jack Adams?
Perhaps their conflicting philosophies is as simple as a GM wanting the coach to play the kids and the coach playing the vets that he trusts and believes give him the best chance to win.

If that is the case it is on Murray. You give the coach a roster, and it's up to the coach to deploy. If you want Lehner over Anderson, remove Anderson as an option, etc...

Just lead an NHL team in scoring and is in the playoffs... 5.5 well spent.  Sens have Alfie this year and they are in the playoffs but at the end of the day it was a good thing they missed because it weeded out players that needed to be weeded out.

They probably already have an idea given they were listening at the deadline, possibly sooner.

More of a question which offers they like best and will Spez waive his NTC there.
