You have to allow the other team to negotiate though. Or you negotiate on their behalf. Either way, there are ways around that.

Yeah shelling out for Methot is really smart lol

He played really, really well in the 2nd half. The Olympics really messed that guy up I think, because once it was clear he wasn't going to make it, he settled down and got back to the way we all want him to play.

It was very clear that he helped the team a lot in the 2nd half and he loves it here and he plays hard, and he appears to be a leader. The BS off-ice stuff needs to be addressed, but Methot is a solid 2nd pairing guy - NOT a top pairing guy.

Now Cowen....Cowen's another story completely. I hope he's our Luke Schenn that we trade for a JVR.

He has far more upside, is younger, and already produces as much as Methot does.

If you just paid 60 million dollars for a team to blow Donkey, you have the right to talk to the players one on one IMO. It's not what I would do, but it's Melnyk we're talking about.
