Without guys like Phillips you're Edmonton. That's about as good as I can summarize it.
Yeah... our D without BigRig is so young and green... still need a vet in there. Just have to play him smart, minimize him getting exposed, like last night...

That was just a power move from a determined forward with speed and skill. It happens.

Pretty sure Edmonton didn't have Phillips in their lineup last night so that argument is shot. Phillips also got burned pretty badly last night. For one year I see the value. We now have 7 defencemen on one-ways next year, and our D is terrible. Sorry I just don't see how extending a regressing player helps our defence become any better. Unless we take a healthy run at Ehrhoff or Edler -or- trade a defenceman today this was a bad signing.

One game?

Phillips is more reliable right now than any of Cowen, Gryba or Wiercioch and he'll help those guys figure out what it takes to be a pro for a relative pittance. This a big picture signing that retains a legacy player who can help instill pride in being an Ottawa Senator among the youngsters and still take a shift.

I'm sorry but we have the best defencman in the world on our team right now. What does an old Phillips bring to the table that Karlsson can't?

Are you seriously comparing Phillips to Karlsson? I'm gonna assume you're kidding.

Yah because Turris, Anderson, and Ryan weren't trades Murray made right.  People come here spout off stupid crap like this and believe they are right. Don't bring HF here please.

I'm, at work but just looking on tsn.ca it's probably the best trade deadline I've seen yet. Blockbusters all over the place. Glad we got Hemsky, hopefully it's gonna spark the team.

why doesn't the NHLPA give each team rep 5 duffle bags with their logo (NHLPA) on it so when a guy is traded he can walk out of the arena with his stuff in something other than a garbage/grocery bag?

Because Hefty™ and Sobey's ™ are paying top dollar for that exposure.

Yeah last I checked yesterday a bunch of posters were all throwing Phillips under the bus as a regressing, replaceable asset. Now he's all high and mighty as a wiley vet who can't handle top four minutes? I agree that a 1 year deal was fine, but a two year deal is a loss in my opinion.
