Da Costa was the better in camp, worked harder in the off season, and earned the spot over Zibanejad. Proof that if you work hard and are good enough you will play. Zibanejad didn't, simple as that.

The decision isn't Da Costa over Z-Bad. The decision is Pageau over Z-Bad, and "we don't want to lose Da Costa for nothing so he'll stay for now."

Exactly. Pageau beat out Zibanejad and you can't really justify Zibanejad being up in the press box vs Da Costa who still hasn't earned a spot in the every day lineup.

They're not pleased with Zibanejad. That much is getting more clear by the minute. He better take this lesson and run with it.

I doubt it, they probably just expected more and I'd be willing to bet they got the impression he was acting like a guy who thought his roster spot was already his. Nothing to worry about, probably just want to send a message, some guys need to grow up a bit. They could have traded Zib and kept Silfverberg if he was on their Dung list.

Although I'd be shocked if Melnyk's calculator wasn't a factor in this.

Yup, stop spinning at night clubs and get into the gym more consistently. Wants all of the things that go with being a professional athlete but he has yet to earn them. Message sent to Zibanejad and the whole organization that if you don't work hard and perform, someone will take your spot.

This is the right move for a lot of reasons.

So they are pleased with Zibanejad but they decided to send a player down who was on the team the majority of last season? Zibanejad dropped the ball in camp, simple as that. He lost his spot to someone who wanted it more.

Lets face it, if he was not waiver exempt he wouldn't be sent down. End of story.

Lets not take this out on the kid, it's sickening. Just a business and he'll be back in no time because I know the type of guy he is.

He will become hungry and be back and light it up. SDC will be out on his Donkey in two weeks.

Exactly.  Pretty sure that's what SSF and I were saying.
Well, I think we all knew that Da Costa and Pageau are the cause of this, but a lot of us thought Z-Bad would stay up with the big club and compete in a night in and night out basis with Da Costa.  Also, it's pretty blunt of Murray.  Usually he'd sugar coat that a little.

If you ask me right now who I'd rather have on the NHL Sens right now, it'd be Zibanejad over Da Costa because of speed, size and experience.  But hey, never argue with Murray.
Never argue with Murray except for dressing a useless plug who literally has no skill. We don't need Kassian.

That is the arms race and it happens all over the NHL. Never get caught without a heavyweight or one of your prospects will get 1 punched or guys will start taking liberties with our star players. I'm not saying I agree with dressing Kassian, but I get where Murray is coming from.

Didn't mean they were pleased just that they expected more and were disappointed. I don't think he was bad but they wanted more than they got.

I don't think they are majorly down on him or anything, just part of the growing up process.

Yeah I really see people taking liberties of the Red Wings and their young player.

Never caught without a heavyweight - except if you wanna go deep in the playoffs.

Why not put a big, intimidating dude in the press box and dress him when you feel there's a threat? Who in the F cares about the stupid Red Wings anymore. Damn I'm annoyed hearing the same things about them time and again. They had the best D-man of our generation - of course they're going to have success.

Z-Bad admitted to Murray that he took the spot for granted. Lesson learned for the kid, it won't happen again, I'd guarantee that.

Because Kassian isn't even a scary guy.

It has nothing to do with the Red Wings or their success, just nobody goes after Red Wings players. And the Bruins and Blackhawks do not have a heavyweight who can't play. Hell, most teams do not have one.

Chris Neil is more than enough.

Red Wings rarely if ever have young players.

I don't know why everyone is so upset one way or another. Zibanejad lost his spot out of camp and with injuries and perhaps someone else not going so well (Da Costa/Kassian) then he's right back in Ottawa. Lesson learned for Zibanejad, message sent top to bottom by Murray and MacLean. Long term this is a good thing for everyone.

Zibanejad got outplayed and out worked at camp, take that lesson, work hard, everything is right with the world again. They didn't trade Silfverberg because they didn't highly of Zibanejad but they won't allow the kid to walk into that room like he has truely earned his spot on the team.
