We'll see... I'll stick with 4-4.5 per in Ottawa on a 2 year deal.

No way! 4 million X 3 is my guess.

Vinny will get at least 5 mil, there are so many teams that need a center even if he isn't a #1 guy anymore.  My guess again is Dallas, MTL, or Nashville.

Montreal is a big maybe. They've got some centers but maybe not a clear cut number 1 guy but vinny isn't one anymore.
Galchenyuk is their # 1 center of the future but that's a few years away.

No chance on Montreal. Dallas, Nashville, Florida are my guesses.

The Habs will need to shed a bit of salary to sign Lecavalier, especially since PK is a RFA after next season and will get a huge raise. That said, this it is do-able, but it puts Montreal in a real tight spot.

Tom Gilbert on the market:

He might be a good choice. RHS D, $4M cap hit, but $3M salary.

No chance he goes to the Habs. Smile

He sucks so hard it's actually comical. We don't need him.

Who knows, they could part ways with pleckanec or gionta after this year if its for cap reasons.

I remember a few years ago he was on the block and Montreal wanted him (apparently), but he wouldn't waive his NTC to go there. He's (apparently) not that kind of player/guy who wants the attention and spotlight. He'll end up in a quiet market IMO, but we'll see I guess.

Not gonna happen Sandy.  The NHL would force Melnyk to sell the team and the owners would literally never be able to move it out of the nation's capital.

Just wanted to add that Ottawa is a good market and while we probably can't throw money around like Toronto we should be fine.

Let's remember that throwing money around does not make a winner. Pegula and his money hasn't made the Sabres any better.

Us fans have no right to complain about the team's budget. Especially given the age of the roster.

I am not complaining about the budget, just concerned about the ability to spend more down the road.

The floor will be going up and it will cost more just to keep what we have.

Exactly...

Melnyk probably lost a bundle in his divorce.. that put him in a bad way financially?

There was an unsubstantiated rumour on another site (probably not true) that the league had to step in and pay some of the players salaries at the end of the season -- they kept that hush-hush.

They need a new Zamboni, apparently, and don't have the $$ to do that..

All of this really has me concerned that this team could be sold and it is gone out of town..

Melnyk has no problems jetting back and forth from Barbados at the drop of a hat and he apparently has money to build a casino too...

Like any rich person, he'd rather have other people pay his expenses (scoreboard) so he's probably waiting for the "corporate community" to buy that Zamboni...

LOL, they just bought a 5 million dollar scoreboard but can't buy a Zamboni? Hell, do you know how many used Zamboni's there are around Canada. Sandy, get off the crack.
