Would you be prepared to deal our 1st round pick this year - a year where the draft is ridiculously deep - for Boyle?

Not sure the Sharks are willing to let Boyle go... they were really close thing year and he still hasn't lost that giant step some people claim he has. He was good all year and stepped up huge in the playoffs. Such a good D man but we'll see what happens with a year left on his deal.

We all know how Murray kinda tries to avoid Russian players maybe because of the threat of the KHL. This team has been burnt by those guys in the past...

Murray is a pretty sly old fox.... He will get someone we don't expect... See the Turris trade.

Of the last few Russians who played here, how many are in the KHL? Filatov. Not Gonchar, not Kovalev, not Volchenkov. And if you only think of *good* Russian players who left town to play in the KHL -- that's a really short list.

It's more the young guys. Gonchar, Kovalev, Volchy etc.. were long-time NHL players when the KHL really took off... Kovalev did play there.. but didn't work out for him.

Any truth to the rumour that Briere is actually coming to Ottawa? That would be a fantastic depth move for the 2nd and 3rd lines if it actually happens.

When does the buyout window open? Or was it never closed?

If it's a trade scenario, I imagine it happens at or before the draft, as it will likely involve a pick or two.

I would think Briere would cost a 4th and JOB, something along those lines. Fact is his cap hit is huge and he has a NTC... only place he could actually land in a trade is Ottawa.

He could very well let the team buy him out then sign where ever he wants, NJ, NYR, and NYI would be places closer to home for sure. That said, being bought out is basically the same thing as being fired in the real world and no NHLer wants that short of them being forced to stay home.

I dunno...he could get bought out AND sign somewhere else and potentially make more money than if he's just traded.

Again, how much more will a 36 year old winger on the decline make than 5 mil over 2 years? 1/2 a mil a season... maybe. Not to mention it's at 2/3rds his salary so it's not impossible he actually comes out even after all is said and done plus the humiliation of a buyout? (Taxes and all that other crap included).

Fact is there is 1 team that would probably trade for Briere that's on the up swing, has tons of cap room, and everything beyond a good hockey team right now and going forward, it's his home town.

Like Ev, I would bet heavy money on Briere being a Sen for a couple years at the cost of no more than JOB and a mid round pick. Sens have 7 draft picks going into this year and with all the prospects they have they probably only need 1 or 2 (1st and a mid)
