2014 1st
Greening
Stone
Boroweicki

Something like that.  Would be worth it because Ottawa is a legit contender with Hossa and the pressure that comes off that team as a whole is huge.

Really? Would they take that package, because I'll drive those guys to the airport myself.

Hossa should have never ever left Ottawa maybe they can rectify that but I doubt Melnyk would ever spend that much, even on a class act like Hossa who is pretty much the opposite of Heatley.

Nash wasn't cheap but Hossa is not an $8m player. It's not even about Melnyk being cheap. That's just a ridiculous amount to pay Hossa right now for the next 3 seasons, no less.

It sounds like pure speculation on his part though.

Kyper tweeted something about it too apparently. Chicago can't sit on Hossa's cap hit and the years after this teams will not take on his contract if he does decline which he will at 34 years old. If there is a time to move him or buy him out it's now because when he is 38, 39 and still has a huge cap hit it will be an enormous issue for Chicago when they will need to retain Toews, Crawford, Kane, Seabrook, etc. Saad will be in for a raise, Bickell they want to stay, etc.

It makes a lot of sense for Chicago to move him right now because his value is only going to go down from here on out and his cap hit will be a bigger problem each year because there is no getting rid of it if he retires.

I can understand people saying that Chicago can't sit on Hossa's cap hit and contract.

But linking him to Ottawa is pure speculation based on his past history here. It's common knowledge we are a budget team.

Well they can't take on cap and will need someone to step into the lineup right away. Greening would fit in like a glove in Chicago, perfect player for that team and system. 2014 1st is a must, no point in not moving it, Sens don't need it. Stone is a top tier prospect so no reason why they wouldn't want him. Boroweicki is a guy that can fill in the depth in Chicago because their blueline might take a hit with Leddy or Hammer being moved because of the cap issue once more. Maybe a guy like Weircioch is more likely though...

That's about as good of a package as you could offer up if they do move him as well as a team taking on that cap hit for that long. Any team worth a damn won't fit Hossa under that cap aside from Ottawa long term.

that's why the last 5 or 6 years of that deal looks so good for the Sens. The first 3 Chicago would probably have to retain some salary. Cheaper than a buyout for them though and they get picks, prospects, and players in a deal.

I don't thinke Friedman puts anything out there without have at least a little insight into it. And, yes, we are a budget team, which is why this definitely doesn't happen without Chicago paying for a significant chunk of that salary.

Ah you are right I forgot that Chicago could retain some of his salary.

The acquiring team must assume at least 50 percent of the remaining salary and cap charge of the SPC.
Such a contract can only be traded twice using provision 1 during the lifetime of the SPC.
Retained salary by the trading team cannot be more than 15 percent of the upper salary cap limit.
A maximum of 3 such contracts with salary retained in a trade can on a team's books at any one time.

If they retain 6 mil of it the Sens are laughing. They can afford a cap hit of 5.9 in real dollars and the ticket sales and buzz it would generate would be off the charts. Like I said a deal like

1st 2014
Greening (replaces a roster spot on the 3rd and 4th line)
Stone (legit prospect)
Boroweicki (depth D man that will be in the NHL)
Chicago retains 2 mil each of the first 3 years.

That's probably more than Chicago could get anywhere else in a deal from a team that can take on that cap hit that long of a time. The cap will never be an issue for Ottawa, just real dollars.

And Hossa doesn't have any kind of NMC or NTC... if Chicago can trade him or wants to trade him they will. If that's the case Ottawa would be insane not to make a move for him in a big way. Perfect player for the Sens. Perfect. Can't say it enough, that's the player they need.

That's a pretty rich offer given the cap aspect of this deal. I wouldn't cry over it but it seems steep nonetheless.

Pass. Not worth that contract.

Yah it does but Greening is getting a raise no matter what... he may be making 3.5 mil next time around. Also, a roster spot for a roster spot in that aspect of things and only makes the team better. Stone... gotta give to get. Boroweicki is tied up in a #'s game in Ottawa and fact is he is expendable. 2014 1st, yah, tough pill to swallow but you won't be getting a player as good as Hossa with that pick, not likely anyways and it could very well be in the 27th-30th range with Hossa in Ottawa.

Trade like that would just advance the Sens so far in terms of development and where they want to be it's worth it to them. But again, who knows if Chicago actually does make a trade involving Hossa but if they are worried about future cap problems then now is the time, simple as that.

If he's bought out he sure as hell isn't coming to Ottawa and like I said, he has nothing in terms of a NTC or NMC.  Chicago can trade the guy and get a good return. Also, back diving contracts actually favour the Sens in terms of actual finances and budgets.

The contract goes down to a million in the last few years, does it not?

Apparently Jonathon Blum is on the market. He's a young RHD who is an RFA.

Is he any good ? or is he a bust/disappointment ?
