Cheapness and/or cheapitude.

Maybe. At the time I recall we were just getting into crappyness. Perhaps they didn't want to spend the money. Not sure what would stop you from making that transaction considering he's an elite-level puck mover and he makes a fair salary for what he brings.

We're still regretting it, but whatever...maybe it was cheapness.

Or maybe Boyle just didn't want to join the clusterdiddle that was the Ottawa Senators at the time

If I remember correctly, he waived to come here.

They get Boyle and then they don't have Karlsson... no thanks. It was the right move at the time and continues to be the correct move. It was not the time to give up assets to get Boyle.

I haven't watched but I heard he has declined this year. Just hearsay and probably bS.

As for the draft, still hoping the Sens trade down a little to land Hartman.

I like him but think they go with pure skill or a big guy with grit and scoring. I understand Hartman plays bigger than his size but we have that type of guy in Conacher if we wanna use him.

I think Shinkaruk might make a lot of sense for Ottawa, if he drops like he has been lately. Pure goal scorer.

I think they will get somebody good regardless, and Domi, Horvat, Wennberg, Burakovsky (W), Mantha, Lazar, Gauthier, Rychel and Jason Dickinson will probably be all on the radar.

Dickinson is another guy who they could trade down a little to get. He is so skilled, but scouts have varied opinions on him. Mark Edwards from HockeyProspect really loves him and I respect his opinion a lot on draft prospects.

Lazar was the guy that intrigued me.

Gauthier is intriguing because he should be about 6'6-6'7 when it's all said and done, and he is extremely good defensively. Don't know about his skating though

""He plays a 200-foot game," Central Scouting's David Gregory told NHL.com. "His motor is always going and he helps down low and can be right back into the play and create on offense. He has unbelievable hands in traffic for a guy his size and can make plays. I didn't know him at all from last year, and was very impressed when I saw him this year.""

also I said we have that guy in Conacher when referring to Hartman, but I wanna catch myself there and retract that since the draft is not about need or how our team looks right now

Hartman will play in the NHL around or over the 200lb mark... huge difference there. He was also a rookie in the OHL this year so having the kind of year he had is all the more impressive. He can skate, he can score, he does all the things needed to be tough to play against. Maybe they try and trade up to land a kid like Domi but they probably won't have a shot at him.

You could be right though, maybe they swing for the fences and try and grab a winger that has a high ceiling that's a bit more risky, could happen and it makes sense. The only thing I disagree with on is the Murray's and Dorion taking a faller in the draft... Sens tend to land the risers.

Really like Horvat, but I assume he's top 15 material after his post-season.

I agree but also feel it's a bit mixed with Cowen and Puempel being 1st round fallers (injuries).

well the Sens have #17 and have depth to move up if they really want a player, if somebody else wants to deal down

That's also a good point. Murray's take a chance on guys who fall because of injuries. Cowen, Puempel, Wiercioch... they love the players that other teams hate as well though.

The thing about the Sens and especially Dorion is that he follows a lot of prospects 1 to 2 years before their draft year so he knows prospect's potential in case they get injured before their draft year. Maidens, Stone are good examples. Wouldn't be surprised if it happens again this year.

Lots of teams do this. It's only a question of philosophy. We valued Karlsson enough to trade up and grab him. Other teams didn't think he was worth #15 overall.
