Let's start exploring the possibilities. Who is in cap hell?

Dallas isn't in cap hell but they are in financial hell. They are a team that's not even close to contending in that new central division, they need to get more pieces in their pipe line because GMJN had an awful scouting staff and did the worst job in the NHL in his time there.

Stone/1st (next year)/Wiercioch for Eriksson would be fantastic... allows Dallas to fill major needs to work towards the rebuild with young players who will fit in right away. Might have to be Noesen if it's a move with Dallas though for obvious reason.

That seems mighty low for a player like Eriksson. Think you have to deal one of Silf or Z-Bad to get him.

Philly, Vancouver, Chicago isn't great either, SJ is at 55 for 15 players - so...not great, Tampa.

Philly's your place to look. Smile

I already know about Philly but the Prager will bookmark my post if I ever mention them again Sarcasm

I'd be really careful in judging Cowen(or anyone else) on this shortened, injury-plagued season.

Thing is we could use Wiercioch as well. This team got boxed into its own zone far too often and he is good at moving the puck out.

Never once did I suggest or say Cowen should be traded. If someone offers up Taylor Hall and Cowen is the piece they want back, well you do it. That sort of thing and having Gonchar back there for a couple of years would allow you to make a move like that, your hands wouldn't be tied because of a lack of depth. That was my entire point.
IMO you don't want to trade Cowen either but funny enough the times that i do sit back and think of options Edm is the one destination where a deal like that could be possible. they need defense bad. whether they actually trade one of their top guns leaves to be seen and i'd be really surprised.

They will already be $20M under the cap though, with about 2 players to re-sign...

It's true though. I want Briere and Simmonds....and yes, now I'm getting greedy.

Zibanejad would be the guy for sure but you don't give up much more than Zibanejad if that's the case. Maybe a guy like Weircioch is added but you gotta be careful. Not sure what they will do but that's the type of move you need to make. People don't give enough credit to a guy like Noesen being born and raised in Dallas either, that has a lot of lure just like Pageau in Ottawa.

Eriksson has an NTC, not sure how that would play out. How many Swedes do we need ? Smile I'd be a little weary of building a team like the Canucks that is going to get physically destroyed by a Western team.

I suspect MacTavish might make a big move, he at least says he wants to. I can't see them trading Eberle or Hall, it'd be Yakupov. He'd have high value and they were willing to trade his pick.

It wasn't directed at you. Just in general. We don't want a soft defense corps.

Don't care how far under the cap they are, they will lose money next year at the floor. That's the point.

To me the best fit right now is Anaheim.
Their center depth is awful, ours is great
They have some emerging young guys at the wing position and just signed 2 players for $17M

Bobby Ryan it is.

Yeah, but I love Noesen as a prospect. I guess if it saves us from sending Zibanejad or Silf, but I hate that though. Think Noesen is gonna make Smith really expendable.

Yakupov playing with a guy like Karlsson would be something special in a few years for sure... that said, not sure you give up a guy like Cowen for a Russian but then you would 100% need to resign Gonchar.

All depends what other teams are willing to do obviously.

This in a BIG way. Can't get a guy signed short term and be forced to trade him next summer or deadline. We need to gel as a 'family' here.

Unless Noesen is going to be playing 4th line his whole career no chance. Smith is the perfect 4th line center right now and plays a big role. He's turned into a really solid NHLer on a 1.8 cap hit deal... not going anywhere. Noesen is probably a guy they don't want to move either, I agree.

Smith is not safe at all, despite what Mac said. His job will be taken by Noesen unless he smartens up a lot. I liked him in the playoffs - for the most part - but he has to bring it every night - and right now I don't see that in him at all. Not sure why he doesn't bring it every night.

Only teams that I think may be in legitimate cap hell are Vancouver and St. Louis (not hell per say but they have a lot of guys to sign).

Don't want anyone on Vancouver.

I'll take the Sedin that's a winger.
I wonder if we'll finally see the Sedin's broken up... would not be surprised...
