Bryan Murray is in the last year of his current contract... he's 70 years old... wonder how much longer he'll hold the title of GM... gotta be thinking about a transition eventually...

B-Murr will hand the reins over to T-Murr, and probably stay on as some sort of advisor to keep collecting a paycheque.

Or maybe, as a cost-savings measure, The Euge will take over as GM...and coach.

For sure, that's the logical move, I'm wondering when that will happen...

you have to think we're only a couple of years away. might sign a 2 year extension but that's it I'd think. his window to win a cup as a GM and then i'm sure hoisting one as an adviser will do if it takes too long.

Yup. He probably thinks a Cup is not far off, at this point. Exciting times ahead.

Could always try for Hossa... LOL

I don't see why not. Muckler is gone and Murray and co. have a reputation as one of the best run organizations. It would be neat to get Hossa back, although he plays a really hard style of game and is always injured it seems.

In this era of social media and flash mobs, anything is possible.

Did you know Hossa is under contract until 2021?

Well at least the Sens would have him a lot longer than they would if they traded for Bobby Ryan...

Ryan is a UFA in 2 yrs. If you have to give up a lot to get him... and he walks as a UFA.. then you are a loser - or the Sens will be. They would be forced to trade him at the deadline and get much less than they paid.. They can't afford to let him walk..

This kid is good.. but he prefers to play in Philly .. not Ottawa.

If Anaheim keeps him this season, they may need to unload him at the deadline in 2 yrs if they can't get him re-signed..

Sens won't be a loser if they contend with Ryan and get some extra playoff dates out of it because Ryan is here.

If they also sell more tickets and excite the fan base it won't be a loss. It's 2 years. It's not like he's going into his last season or you're paying for his FA rights. This would be a dumb move not to make IMO.

Sandy, this will usually be the case. There's always risk involved. Would you rather see the window close (and be safe) or see the Sens go for it (and take risks)? Me, I'd rather see them do their best to get a shot at a cup. If they're shying away from people because they will, at some point, have an opportunity to leave, then it's time for a management shift.

Yes, he could walk in 2 years. We wouldn't trade him at the deadline though, because with Bobby Ryan we will compete for the cup.
But you know what makes up for it eve if he walks away? Our gazillion numbers of prospects that would actually not even have the chance to play in the NHL if we don't do any moves.

Sooner trade for a guy that has 4 or 5 yrs on a contract... but not too many of them available.

Murray has to get to those teams in cap hell... there is more than one to try to get that top line player.

That won't be easy to do...

I look at Bobby Ryan very much like Rick Nash, good player but has he proven to be a go to guy? No chance. Maybe he becomes that with Spezza, maybe he becomes that with Turris, no idea. Would still be weary of trading for a guy like that.

Well, no go to guy would be available

Like Rick Nash, sometimes the best move to make is no move at all. I'm for sure on the bandwagon of getting a legit 30, 40 goal guy but Ryan isn't exactly known for his hard work or consistency. IMO has to be more proven or at least more upside than Ryan... that said, he scored 30 every year and that's about all you can ask. Hopefully they don't have to move anyone off the current roster to make a play like that. Zibanejad has the most value and I wouldn't give up much more than him straight up for Ryan. Maybe a Stone OR Wiercioch but it ends there.
