Bobby Ryan it is.

Ryan has 2 years left and I think he'll sign with the Flyers at that point.

We need a guy whose rights we'd retain for a quite a long time.

This in a BIG way. Can't get a guy signed short term and be forced to trade him next summer or deadline. We need to gel as a 'family' here.

Bobby Ryan will come here and will have a chance to play for a contender for the next 10 years with the best offensive D in the league feeding him on the power play.
Meanwhile in Philadelphia they have 69 wingers, the worst goalie in the league paid $1B and the worst fanbase in sports...
I'll take my chances

Still though...when the chips are down they're gonna want one of our young bucks + for him. I'd really, really rather trade for a guy who has a minimum of 4-5 years left. It scares me that he might want to 'explore' the free agent market and it's all for nothing basically.

Some players don't give a Dung about that and only care about being close to family etc. As far as I am concerned no players of consequence wants to play in Ottawa if he has other choices.

Getting a top 6 guy with 4-5 years left on his contract is next to impossible... they either are too good to be traded or have an awful contract.

Family is overrated. Corey Perry also wanted to play close to family lol

Bobby Ryan fits the Murray Mould. Yong guy, and as Murray explicitly mentioned today, he's more interested in the guys who are < 30 yrs of age. I'm sure Murray won't be making the deal until he's absolutely sure he can get him signed to an extension shortly after (see Bishop deal, and the fact GMs are granted communication between players/agents to discuss trades)

Every player is different. I can't think of a player that has the family history that Ryan has. I don't have a good feeling about Ryan, especially after his tirade against the Ducks GM and wanting to be traded etc. on twitter.

He'd actually be a great fit. All the top 6 wingers in Philly are. But don't tell Prages Sarcasm

I think he's a more realistic option than Voracek or Simmonds out of Philly is what it boils down to. I think he brings the dimension they wanted to get out of Greening on Spezza's left but with better hands.

I think saying it's overrated is not correct. However you may not really start caring about family until you are in your late 30s, with kids.

I think Tampa may be one of those teams. Short of bodies and relatively tight to the cap maybe a young, cheap D-Man and forward plus a pick gets us Teddy Purcell?

I'm pasting this in the OFF-SEASON thread where it belongs... Wink

Let's start exploring the possibilities. Who is in cap hell?

Philly, Tampa, Canucks, Tampa, San Jose... to name a few.

That's what I've been thinking. Give up some really good prospects to have a player for 2 yrs? No way...

Bryan Murray is in the last year of his current contract... he's 70 years old... wonder how much longer he'll hold the title of GM... gotta be thinking about a transition eventually...

B-Murr will hand the reins over to T-Murr, and probably stay on as some sort of advisor to keep collecting a paycheque.

Or maybe, as a cost-savings measure, The Euge will take over as GM...and coach.

For sure, that's the logical move, I'm wondering when that will happen...
