Let's start exploring the possibilities. Who is in cap hell?

Dallas isn't in cap hell but they are in financial hell. They are a team that's not even close to contending in that new central division, they need to get more pieces in their pipe line because GMJN had an awful scouting staff and did the worst job in the NHL in his time there.

Stone/1st (next year)/Wiercioch for Eriksson would be fantastic... allows Dallas to fill major needs to work towards the rebuild with young players who will fit in right away. Might have to be Noesen if it's a move with Dallas though for obvious reason.

That seems mighty low for a player like Eriksson. Think you have to deal one of Silf or Z-Bad to get him.

Zibanejad would be the guy for sure but you don't give up much more than Zibanejad if that's the case. Maybe a guy like Weircioch is added but you gotta be careful. Not sure what they will do but that's the type of move you need to make. People don't give enough credit to a guy like Noesen being born and raised in Dallas either, that has a lot of lure just like Pageau in Ottawa.

Yeah, but I love Noesen as a prospect. I guess if it saves us from sending Zibanejad or Silf, but I hate that though. Think Noesen is gonna make Smith really expendable.

Unless Noesen is going to be playing 4th line his whole career no chance. Smith is the perfect 4th line center right now and plays a big role. He's turned into a really solid NHLer on a 1.8 cap hit deal... not going anywhere. Noesen is probably a guy they don't want to move either, I agree.

Smith is not safe at all, despite what Mac said. His job will be taken by Noesen unless he smartens up a lot. I liked him in the playoffs - for the most part - but he has to bring it every night - and right now I don't see that in him at all. Not sure why he doesn't bring it every night.

Only teams that I think may be in legitimate cap hell are Vancouver and St. Louis (not hell per say but they have a lot of guys to sign).

Don't want anyone on Vancouver.

I'll take the Sedin that's a winger.
I wonder if we'll finally see the Sedin's broken up... would not be surprised...

That said, if Murray can deliver a top line forward and re-sign Gonchar - look the F out. Ahhhhh!

I think they have NMC though, right?

Yakupov playing with a guy like Karlsson would be something special in a few years for sure... that said, not sure you give up a guy like Cowen for a Russian but then you would 100% need to resign Gonchar.

All depends what other teams are willing to do obviously.

The Russian factor is a bit overblown. Do your research on the player and see if it's worth it. I'd give up a lot for Tarasenko as well but that is not going to happen. Gonchar would naturally help as well.

SpezDispenser wrote:Diddle...imagine the Winger Sedin here? Look out...

Sedins would never be traded and if so they wouldn't be broken up either. If they are traded then Vancouver is throwing in the towel and they won't do that.

Yes. So, scratch that.

Philly, Vancouver, Chicago isn't great either, SJ is at 55 for 15 players - so...not great, Tampa.

Philly's your place to look. Smile

I already know about Philly but the Prager will bookmark my post if I ever mention them again Sarcasm

It's true though. I want Briere and Simmonds....and yes, now I'm getting greedy.

I'd "settle" for young Hartnell.

There is a reason the moved Zibanejad to the wing and kept Smith at center. Smith has the trust of the coaching staff and the organization as well as the fact the team has invested a ton of time in developing him into that 3rd/4th line tweener center.

Noesen is a winger, not a center, he won't be taking Smith's job. A shut down center who can score 10-15 a year and play extremely tough, hard mins don't grow on trees. Cap hit is also 1.8 mil which is a steal. Asking a guy like Smith to play his best game every night is asking too much because it simply isn't possible.

Bieksa might be a guy the Sens target. Now there is the perfect player to take Gonchar's spot if they decide to move him. Something has to give in Vancouver but they will need to move a goalie first.

Ryan has 2 years left and I think he'll sign with the Flyers at that point.

We need a guy whose rights we'd retain for a quite a long time.

This in a BIG way. Can't get a guy signed short term and be forced to trade him next summer or deadline. We need to gel as a 'family' here.

Bobby Ryan will come here and will have a chance to play for a contender for the next 10 years with the best offensive D in the league feeding him on the power play.
Meanwhile in Philadelphia they have 69 wingers, the worst goalie in the league paid $1B and the worst fanbase in sports...
I'll take my chances

They may have to move young Scotty Hartnell to make that happen.

Still though...when the chips are down they're gonna want one of our young bucks + for him. I'd really, really rather trade for a guy who has a minimum of 4-5 years left. It scares me that he might want to 'explore' the free agent market and it's all for nothing basically.

Some players don't give a Dung about that and only care about being close to family etc. As far as I am concerned no players of consequence wants to play in Ottawa if he has other choices.

Getting a top 6 guy with 4-5 years left on his contract is next to impossible... they either are too good to be traded or have an awful contract.
